READ HAYES has been a Security Researcher and Consultant since 1984. He has over 28 years' hands-on crime and loss control experience with numerous organizations worldwide, including Target, Home Depot, Bloomingdales, Coles Meyer, Disney, Proctor and Gamble and Wal-mart. A co-ordinator of the Loss Prevention Research Team at the University of Florida and Director of the retailer-supplier coalition Loss Prevention Research Council, his current research focuses on offender decision-making, total supply chain protection, asset and key product protection and premises violence, security and safeness. He is the author of over 60 articles and three books including Retail Security and Loss Prevention.

He has over 32 years hands-on crime and loss control experience with Robinson's, Sears, JByron's and Ross Stores, and has provided loss prevention solutions to numerous organizations including: Wal*Mart, Target, The Home Depot, Sears, Dixons (UK), US Coast Guard Exchange System, Hair Cuttery, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Gillette, Universal Studios Florida, Smithsonian Institute, Radio City Music Hall, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, Piercing Pagoda, Goodwill Industries, Planet Music (Borders), Garden Ridge, Backyard Burger, Workplace (Staples), Haugkaup (Iceland), CVS, Buena Vista Home Video (Walt Disney Company), Pilot Truck Stops, Lojas Americanas (Brazil), Marshall's/TJMaxx, Anatole Resort, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, Wyeth, Walgreen's, Macy's and Premier Cruise Lines.

His background also includes reserve US Army infantry officer (Recon/Scout platoon leader), and as a narcotics agent with the Alachua County Florida Sheriff's Office.

Dr. Hayes is a member of the American Society of Criminology (ASC), Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), Academy of Security Educators and Trainers (ASET), the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), and the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP).

Read also serves as a member of Security Journal's editorial board, a member of ASIS' Retail Security Council, a member of Loss Prevention Magazine's editorial board, a member of the Loss Prevention Foundation's Academic Committee, and a member of RILA's loss prevention steering committee.
