4.0 out of 5 stars Really fun toy encourges exercise
We bought this toy a couple years ago and is fun for ages 3-adult. It teaches kids how to hit a ball without having to worry about the ball breaking a window or going over the fence. It can be played two a time too and it will help teach them hand eye coordination too.
I gave it four stars though as the only thing not great is that after some time the ball does...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
We LOVED this toy back in the day, but this new version is a cheap disappointment. The pole does not stay in its positioner in the base very well. It pops out frequently. The "old school" zim zam that has a pole that you drive into the ground is MUCH better.

I gave it four stars though as the only thing not great is that after some time the ball does come off the top spiral, it will not go far and break anything but a slight inconvienance to have to get and put back on.
Completely worth the fun but if they could prevent this on a future model it would be awesome.
Also the way the bottom opens it is very easy to fill with water or sand and refill or clean it as needed.

We loved it as a kid in the 80's and now our children love it too! I love the 'play anywhere' base which, as long as it is filled with water (or sand) never tips over. Lots of fun for kids of ALL ages!

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TOY-- BUT SHOP AROUND FOR PRICES, February 18, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
Our kids received Swingball for Christmas and have been playing non stop since. Because it is winter, we set it up inside the house on the hardwood floors and instead of putting water or sand in the base as suggested, we loaded it up with books. Our 3 children love to play it all the time. It is great fun, and perfect for little ones to learn eye-hand coordination. One warning, 2 of our children got cuts on the insides of their thumbs at the holes where the screws are on the plastic racket handles. We're guessing it was from sharp edges on the plastic. We wrote to the manufacturer and received no reply. We just placed some tape over the edges and they are good to go. Shop around for prices. We got this for $29 from a major department store.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun for all, October 21, 2007

No doubt about it, the older version I played with was definitely better made. However, I still have just as much fun as I did when I was younger (although I am now more prone to injury!) My kids and I have a blast playing this. We ordered the one with the all surface base for versatility on where we play, but the pole does tend to get pulled out of the base when we accidentally hit the string. I wish the design helped prevent this. We are using water in the base. This might be less of an issue with sand. We have not yet tried that.

We bought this as a present for our 6 year old son. However, his 10 year old brother and I, his father, have had as much fun with it as the 6 year old. We have it in our basement for rainy days. The issues with instability are lessened if the base is filled with sand instead of water. You can buy a bag of play sand at Kmart for about $4 and your're ready to go! I would recommend this for ages 6 and up, because our 4 year old son seems to be too small to play with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun while it lasted, July 31, 2008

This is a great game and the children were thrilled when it arrived. Directions say you can fill the bottom with water or sand. I used water... that may have been the problem. Regardless, on day 2 of playing the entire set fell over and a piece of the top that controls the string rotation to the top or the bottom broke off. You can still play, but who ever is trying to win in the direction of the broken piece has an unfair advantage and the children haven't played it since. I sent an email to the store to see if I could purchase a replacement part, but they didn't offer it. I may try the manufacturer, but I haven't yet.

I got this Swingball for my 8-year old son as something new for the summer. It is great for him to play by himself (and improve hand-eye coordination). And it is good for him to play with mom, dad, cousins or friends. Dad and son have a lot of fun playing together and either one has a good chance of "winning".
I like the portability feature - how it all breaks down and fits into the base. We recently took it with us on July 4th to a large family gathering. It is very light, easy to carry and set up with access to water (or dirt). I think by the end of the day, almost everyone played at least once!
I am curious to see how durable it is. We live in Georgia and it is set up out in the sun all the time. We'll see how the plastic holds up!

5.0 out of 5 stars swingball tenis, February 27, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a good product for beginners. It is not so sturdy as someone mentioned but the thing is not to hit so hard as to knock down any opponent. My 9 year old uses it mainly to improve on his forehand and backhand strokes, position of the racket is important and be consistent with each stroke when hitting the ball. Hitting hard is not going to make the player any better. I filled up a couple of zip log bags with river rocks and it holds it down good, without hitting the ball too hard.
