5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ
There are many classes offered which can be helpful but time consuming. However this book offers in simple to understand language some of the best money saving tips. The reader may be familiar with some of the suggestions but I will bet that there are quite a few saving tips that are eye openers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really for poor
This is an amazing price for a hardcover book, especially one that is selling for $19.95 plus shipping elsewhere. The book, however, was a bit of a disappointment. Contrary to the title, it seems to be written for middle class, middle-aged people. A very large portion of the book is devoted to retirement investments - how to open IRA's, how to manage accounts, etc. There...

There are very few money saving tips, and they are simply common sense. (Save hundreds on your phone bill translates to using an internet phone service, such as Skype). There are also discussions on real estate buying and selling, estate planning and tax tips and planning. None of these things would apply to the "poor." Almost all this financial advice is available free at multitudes of web sites. While probably useful to some, I feel the title should be changed to be less misleading.

This book was given as a gift to one of my co-workers. I read this book and shared it with other co-workers, family and friends, some of them have taken advantage of the saving suggestions. Definitely I have taken advantage of most of the saving tips that were offered and have already seen the monetary benefits.
Without hesitation this is a MUST READ book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, January 4, 2011

Chock full of good information. This is a good read when you're sitting around waiting for time to fly by. It's like reading an Almanac: you never know what you're going to come across, and how the information will affect your life/finances.

I'm a big believer in buying from Amazon - but this is ridiculous - This book is only $9.99 new in soft cover and $27.96 in hard cover from the publisher, FC&A Publishing

This is a great book. Very informative and gives a lot of websites for follow up. Just about done with the first reading of it. Have to check out the websites next.

Very good informative book without having to pay $100.00 to get it along with newsletters. Did not want the newsletters. Went to Amazon and found it without the hassle of being bothered with other offers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't spend money without research, January 29, 2012
This review is from: Retiring Well on a Poor Man's Budget: 1,001 Ways to Stretch Your Income and Enjoy Your Golden Years (Hardcover)
Disclaimer: I have not read this book.
I am 'semi-retired' and living close to the bone, so when google pulled up this amazon link, I had to check it out. This book and the publisher raise some red flags for me:
1) There is no author, so it is impossible to determine if they know what they are talking about.
2) The publisher publishers a long list of similar books and newsletters on many topics, all with no author.
3) the used prices on the book are the prices you see in the remainder bins - does not speak well for the value of the content.
4) googling the publisher pulled up articles and reviews that are concerning.
5) going to the publisher's site and looking at the quality of the free advice was illuminating, to say the least.

So here are two free tips:
1) try your library. My library has this book. If yours does not, have them try interlibrary loan. If after you read it you don't buy it, put the book price in your savings account or pay down some debt. That saves you $$ right there.
2) Google "retiring poor". You'll come up with lots of free ideas and insights from all over the world.

This review is from: Retiring Well on a Poor Man's Budget: 1,001 Ways to Stretch Your Income and Enjoy Your Golden Years (Hardcover)
Much of the info in this book is basic good sense, but some things that i had not thought of are also included. Not all suggestions are useful for everyone, but that would be true with any book. Any tips that can save you money are good, so even if you can only use a few,the book is worth the price.
