Your directors for this retreat, Praying With Our Bodies, are Our Lady, Dominic and Ignatius. Our Lady--Mary of Nazareth, widowed woman, survivor, sojourner, seeker of sanctuary, marginalized woman, woman pregnant with hope--teaches us how to bring Christ to a broken world and to let the Spirit pray through us in word, in silence, in stillness and in movement. Our other two mentors, Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers, and Ignatius, founder of the Society of Jesus, are well known for their steadfast devotion to Our Lady. They, too, have much to teach us about how to let the Holy Spirit pray in us through these "temples" of the Holy Spirit, our bodies.

About the Author
BETSEY BECKMAN, a dancer and choreographer, has been acclaimed as one of the finest liturgical dancers in the country. As movement therapist, mother, writer and dancer, she dedicates her life and work to reclaiming and celebrating the body as sacred. With J. Michael Sparough, S.J., she has coauthored numerous audiotapes, including The Body at Eucharist, Full Body Blessing and Treasures From the Heart (St. Anthony Messenger Press).
NINA O'CONNOR, a poet and former teacher and principal in Dominican-staffed schools, is an assistant controller for a computer company. She assists with retreats and days of prayer, especially those including Dominican spirituality.
J. MICHAEL SPAROUGH, S.J., is a retreat master, storyteller and spiritual director at Bellarmine Hall, the Jesuit Retreat House in Chicago. He is the founder and former artistic director of the Fountain Square Fools, an internationally acclaimed drama troupe.

Betsey Beckman, MM, is nationally acclaimed as liturgical dancer, storyteller, teacher of SpiritPlay and dancing Spiritual Director. With her extensive repertory of sacred storydances, she is regularly featured as artist/presenter at national conferences as well as local churches. She earned her Masters in Ministry degree from Seattle University, her certificate in Movement Therapy from the Institute for Transformational Movement, and is a certified InterPlay leader. As dancer, choreographer, author, mother, wife, teacher and spiritual director, she is passionate about living life fully and fostering creativity in all those with whom she shares life and ministry. Betsey's publications include "Awakening the Creative Spirit: Bringing the Arts to Spiritual Direction" and "The Dancing Word" series of DVDs on embodied prayer.
