I hope this book gets out and touches the very soul of each individual that reads it as it did me. I just can not express what a joy it was for me to read every word of it. I plan on re-reading it because I love the personal feeling it gave me to have Jesus stand right in front of me and say the very things he said to Susan.

This is such a wonderful story of a mother who takes a break from her busy life to slow down and reflect at a women's weekend retreat. All of us have felt that internal conflict of wanting to do what's best for our family but losing some of what we need in the process. How do we regain that without feeling selfish? This book helps to remind us of how we are loved, unconditionally, and how we can be strong for our families by being strong in our faith. Read this book if you need "a lift" (as my precious Mom always says) in your life as a parent. Highly recommended.

Fabulous book! Beautifully written, and written in a way we can all identify with and understand. I agree with another reviewer that everyone should read this book! If you've ever wondered why things happen the way they do, this is the best book I've ever read that explains things in the Bible, and gives examples. I felt so much better after reading, and have already started to re-read. It also gives us the ability to see things in an entirely different perspective. The things we complain about (teenagers....) are gifts! Totally recommend, and hope she continues to write! I will probably buy copies of this one to hand out to friends.

Like most moms, Susan has spent all her time and energy on her family and now she's feeling run-down and put-upon and wonders if there is more to "Susan" than just "Mom" and "wife", so she attends a women's retreat held at her favorite beach. She gets great advice from the retreat leader and from the other attendees, but her greatest boost comes from talking to Jesus on the beach. No, really. Jesus is on the beach. This book could so easily have become overbearing and preachy. I don't like preachy fiction. If I'm in that mindset, I'll read the Bible or a devotional. Somehow, although probably half the book is conversations with Jesus, Fillion managed to make it not preachy. Instead, Retreat to Folly is a sweet inspirational book that will strike a chord with women everywhere.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I couldn't put down this book. It is very heart spoken and deals with emotions and feelings each of us feel in our daily lives. It is written in a richly entertaining fiction that reminds me a great deal of "The Shack". Soul searching and life meaning. I enjoyed this book and give hands down a 10 to Missy Fillion!

Growing up with the ability to go to Folly Beach, SC, the title of the book caught my eye, but the first chapter, caught my Christian heart and I was hooked. This book resonated with what is going on in my life as a SAHM to 3 and understanding where the resentment she talks about can suffocate our lives, and knowing with time and taking care of ourselves, we begin to enjoy the gift God has bestowed on us in raising the souls he has loaned to us. This book was the catalyst for me to make some serious changes in how I live, how I relate/talk to my children, and getting back on track to follow my own dreams. Understanding the past shapes, but it doesn't control your life if you give it to God is a real lesson we all struggle with because so many of us think we need to dissect the past experiences before we can move on, which is not true.

God really does try many times to get your attention to make changes or see what is in your life. Sometimes it is the first whisper, then the newspaper article in your daily paper, before finally it is someone knocking you out with a sermon or a book. THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS BOOK.

The only thing I would of changed would of been a better description of Plough Mud, to some it stinks to high heaven, to those of us who grew up around it, it is sweet smell of the lush marsh grass it surrounds, mixed with the salty ocean air. I must smell Plough Mud at least once with the windows rolled down while I am driving over the bridge to Folly or on the way to Beaufort.

Perseverance to you in your next book and God Bless you for listening to God on using the gifts he has given you.
