Throughout this book, I’ve kept in mind the limitations under which most amateurs must train their own dogs for hunting and hunting tests. Few have ideal training grounds. Few have unlimited time. Few have unlimited discretionary spending money for equipment. Frankly, keeping such limits in mind has been easy, for I’ve been drilling my own dogs under similar circumstances for several decades! I would have had difficulty not identifying with all other such trainers!

This is a well written, understandable book. I understand and appreciate the author's humor.

This book will not tell you how to train your dog. This book will not give you a framework or flowchart for training.

This book is a valuable aid, because when you have a dog at different stages of training, you are looking for ideas on other things you can add to the training. This book supplies that. You will need to know where your dog is at in its training to use this book. That is were the work of Lardy or Graham is helpful.

I could never read it cover to cover. It is a reference book that gets opened weekly to look for ideas on what can be added for training.
