I have never seen patterns like this that come in book form. There are six different apron patterns and easy instructions for all of them. The patterns come in multiple sizes for a flattering fit. I have already made 2!
Very well written pattern and sewing instructions with excellent accompanying illustrations. I just completed the first (of many to be sure!) aprons from this booklet and couldn't be more pleased with the result. While the multi-sized, full size patterns do need to be traced (since they're printed on two-sided paper), the results are well worth the effort. The pattern pieces fit together perfectly. Nice use of rick-rack, and I was impressed to see that the author included both the "retro" and contemporary ways of making the apron ties. Again, well done.
I bought this book on a whim in a quilt store and I'm glad I did so. I made four aprons for my sisters and a friend. I did the polka dot one with the pocket. The patterns here are more intermediate based than beginning which is my level. However the finished results looked great.
I am at the moment making the center apron pictured. The pattern calls for zig-zagging or serging around the edges and then applying the rick rack. The edge is then turned under and sewn down. It looks good from the outside, but the other side looks unprofessional and I knew that the fabric, when washed, would still ravel a bit if I just zig-zagged it. I don't have a serger. So, if you can use a serger, it will look great. I am giving the apron as a gift and wanted to make it look professionally made and so I cut out my own facing to go around the neck and under the arms. I will then sew down the facing to keep it neat. I am making a size large and have run out of rick rack before I have finished. So, rather than two packages (5 yards) of rick rack, I will need three. Maybe the rick rack company short-changed me? No. There's a lot of rick rack on this design! It is better to buy 3 packs just in case. The pattern may be difficult for beginners to understand. Otherwise it is a very cute pattern and I would recommend it for persons with sewing experience.
