Here 100 recipes for beach picnics and barbecues blended with colorful 1950s illustrations throughout. Southern classic Fried Chicken, Sea Devil Eggs and more. Summer is finely here and Retro beach bach is a great book to start the season with. I use to this book for my cooking night last week. We had Southern Fired chicken, campfire bicuts, totally perfect ice tea and walk the plank cookies, and they all tasted so good. I sure can't wait to use this book again for my next cooking night. I had a ball or should I say beach ball and you will too if you get this book

Great fun! Even though I'm not old enough to really remember the 60's with the beach bashes, I did have a battery operated record player that regret throwing away. Surf's up!

A fifties retrospective about fun at the beach and many recipies for beach food,

For many reasons, nostalgia for the past is a part of all of us, even when it is unjustified. The reality is that the good old days generally never were. It is only the passage of time and the immediacy of our current problems that make them seem that way.In this book, the nostalgic cravings for the sun and fun of the beach are recreated. Some of the favorite beach activities such as volleyball, surfing, beachcombing, building sandcastles and picnicking are described. The tone of the book is right out of the 1950's, the posed joy of the people; broad smiles are everywhere, even when the people are doing the most mundane of activities. If the kitsch of fifties retrospectives are of interest to you then this is a book for you. However, if you are more of a realist about those times, then you will view this book for what it is. A throwback to a time when the American public was in many ways innocently naïve and simplistic about the world and that was reflected in the portrayals of people at leisure. |
