5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Quite Like the Original
If you're using an NES emulator, you've probably run into the same problem I had: finding a controller that mimics the originals. It seems no modern USB controller quite got the D-pad right. This simple accessory solved my problem. Finally, Mario is once again able to climb those bean stocks without constantly falling off.

This is like the sweetest thing ever made. It turns your computer into a nintendo, a nintendo with every nintendo game ever made. No more using the stupid keyboard to try and blast aliens in Contra. No more running Bo Jackson out of bounds when your finger slips going for the last score in tecmo bowl. Serious, GET THIS THING. You won't be sad.
I use it with Nestopia for my mac. You need to download and install the emulator enhancer (don't forget to restart) Then it should ask you to configure the joystick when it reboots. If not just go to configure joystick in the menu and you're good to go.

The reason I buy this item is because you can only buy it in the States. Shippping to the Netherlands was very fast after I order it by using a creditcard. Within a week after I place the order! Very good!

The installation is very easy on Win XP 32 bit and Vista 32/64 bit. Just plug it in, the message appear that new hardware has been found and it can be used, no need to calibrate, just start your Nestopia or something, setup your buttons within its configuration dialog and start rolling your Super Mario, Megamen or Double Dragon games right away! Very easy! A kid can do the loundry!

Does not work on Apple Macintosh products, wich makes sense tough.

Very good tip!

Mattheüs from Netherlands.

I attempted to buy the "Retrolink" adapter shown in the image above, but was shipped a "Retro-bit" branded adapter. I was disappointed not to get what was shown in the image on the Amazon.com web page where I added it to my shopping cart. I'm even more disappointed by the adapter's performance. When I use it to plug in my NES controller, I find crosstalk between my buttons, and I'm unable to properly calibrate it. Up, Left, and Right on the D-pad work, but Down crosstalks with Left, button 1 crosstalks with button 2, button 2 crosstalks with button 3, button 3 crosstalks with button 4, and button 4 crosstalks with Up. The result is that my games get multiple button responses when I press only one button. This is terribly disappointing. It may be possible to crack open the adapter and do some soldering or other surgery on its guts, but I lack the tools and skills for that, and I'd rather have my money back. Two big thumbs down for the shoddy workmanship of the product that was shipped to me instead of what I ordered.

People who rate this low were probably having the same problem that I was (until I fixed it)--

- Windows recognized the adapter/controller combo, but pushing buttons and moving the d pad didn't seem to do anything (or it would like like I was pressing *everything* at once).

-Fixed by *slightly* bending the pins inward (outward might work too) to make better contact with the sockets on the controller. I *think* the pins are slightly smaller than on the original NES. Whatever the problem is, if the connection isn't made, the device will appear to be broken.

This is a wonderful product. I can play retro NES games on my pc with the actual NES controller.
However, it is not the product I ordered. I ordered a RETROLINK adapter and received a RETROBIT adapter.
I think a couple other customers had this same problem. Unlike those customers, my RETROBIT adapter works just fine.
They seem to be virtually the same product and since it works flawlessly I will only deduct one star.
I would also like to point out that the adapter has about 3 feet of cable and when you add that to the already long NES
controller cable, you get a controller that can reach all the way across most rooms.

i was building an NES PC and this came in handy...shipped and arrived in a timely manner...for my purposes i needed to crack open the protective bulky shell (which was easy to do if need be). The cord could have been a little shorter but can easily be remedied...all in all great functionality two thumb up

4.0 out of 5 stars Great adapter!, December 18, 2010

This is a great adapter. It is recognized as a game pad in Windows 7 after you plug it in and no software needs to be installed. It is a little dificult to plug the controller into it (lining the prongs up). So leave it plugged together. Nice design that matches the look of the Nintendo plug. It looks and works like Nintendo made it. In case you don't know, that's high praise! The only real deal breaker here is the price. At $25 a piece they are very expensive compared to other retro controller adapters that cost half as much and have 2 ports. However, this is the only NES adapter. The only other option for NES to PC are the purpose built USB NES control pads whose reviews are less than flattering. It does bring back the memories though. So in that sence it's priceless.

Pros:
- Works as advertized
- Nice design
- No sensitivity issues
- Recognized imediately with no software
- Brings new life to Zelda Classic and other fan made games or titles.

Cons:
- Very Pricy at $25 compared to other retro adapters!
- Only one controller per adapter
- A little dificult to plug controller into

What can I say other than this product is flawless? It's the perfect solution if you have NES emulators on your computer and you want to complete the retro feel of your games by using a licensed Nintendo controller. Just plug your controller into this and now it's become a plug-and-play USB device.
