5.0 out of 5 stars a retrospective, April 20, 2004
This review is from: A Retrospective (Audio CD)
Can I explain Saetia? No. Can I tell you what they sound like or anything pertenant to making a desicion on whether you should buy this cd? No. So I'll make this short and sweet.

Attempt at describing Saetia's sound: Melodic and violent, chaotic and collected. Moving from one to the other quite easily, often times in the same song. Heavy on the screams, the vocals sound like, gasp, there is some actual meaning to what is being said. They are loaded with emotion. Emotion = emo right? Could be, I dunno, don't really care, cause Saetia sounds pretty damn good. One of those bands that can't be pigeon holed.

Attempt at describing Saetia's histroy: I've got no clue. All I know is that it says in the back of the booklet that they were a band from Feb 1997-Oct 1999. Again, according to the back of the booklet, they released one LP, a 7", and a demo cassette, as well as a random comp song. Far to little, that's how much material Aerosmith should have released. A band this good should have stayed together and released more, but what can you do?

The CD itself: Contains 22 songs total, 17 of which are listed. What the last five are, I've got no idea. But it's five more songs, and that's not something to complain about at all. Recording quality may not be the best ever, but the music more than makes up for it. 22 songs for like 12 bucks? Sounds like a deal to me. Level Plane put out this release, a great label that not many people know of.

*I get scene points for doing this review and likeing this band, but since I loath the notion of any tribulization of any scene or music in general, you can have them. You're welcome.

Saetia was emo before emo changed into garbage. Saetia was hardcore before hardcore became kids screaming like cookie monster. Saetia is noise therapy. Saetia is the greatest hardcore band ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars great CD, July 26, 2003

This review is from: A Retrospective (Audio CD)
Upon my first listen, i was a bit skeptical. The lead singer had a crazy voice, and the music was a blend of hardcore and melodic. I am not a huge fan of hardcore besides such bands as Converge and Underoath, but after a few listens, i am in love with this band. My favorite songs are 'i bleed', 'venus and bacchus', 'an open letter', and 'the poet you never were'.
these songs are classic. After a few listens Saetia has entered my top 10 favorite bands list.
buy this cd, support this band.

that's it, no gang! (Central Coast, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Retrospective (Audio CD)
Well, all I wanted to say about this record is that it's really good. It's an emotional, powerful, energetic masterpiece. I'm sad at the fact that this band is no longer together. They sound great live, and on that note, if anyone was wondering, the unlisted tracks are live and I will list them for anyone that is interested.

18. the poet you never were (live)

19. ariadne's friend (live)

20. notres langues nous trompent (live)

21. the sweetness and the light (live)

22. endymion (live)

well, that is that.

adios

4.0 out of 5 stars must have for screamo/hardcore fans, February 19, 2005

the lead singers' voice is beautiful. the screams quaver, peek, and dip so chaotically it's pure genius. acoustically, the group is nothing special, but the vocals make this the best thing ever. this group is the definition of screamo for me. the lyrics are pretty much poems, which are very nice.

if you like 90's hardcore like Orchid, you'll like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars raw emotion, July 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Retrospective (Audio CD)
i beg to differ with one review of this CD as not being 'emo.' emo stands for emotional hardcore, which is what Saetia epitomizes. this album is full of pure energy and amazing lyrics. Saetia is one of the greatest emo bands of all time and should definitely be explored by anyone who claims to call themselves an emo kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars very essential cd, May 14, 2003

This review is from: A Retrospective (Audio CD)
saetia is one of the best emo bands out there. take everything that was great about the nineties (anasarca, closure, breakwater, maximillian colby) and adds just a little more passion. billy werner pens lyrics that draw you in, unlike dashboard confessional whose lyrics make you want to hit him. this cd has everything collected for you the demo, the lp and two 7"'s. the most stand out songs are "venus and bacchus" fom the demo/first 7" and the most quoted song ever "some natures catch no plagues" from the eronel 7". only a fool would claim emo cred and not have this cd. check out the new bands hot cross, the fiction and off minor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saetia - The Greatest Sreamo Band Ever, June 26, 2003
By
This review is from: A Retrospective (Audio CD)
I forced myself to write a review after the last person who reviewed this cd called saetia emo. i beg to differ, saetia was a hardcore band with raspy screaming and spazzy vocals, their music was filled with passion and intensity. this discography cd is a recap of the their 2 and a half year journey that started in feb 97 and ended in oct 99. saetia isnt an emo band. mineral is an emo band. saetia defines the sound of passionate music. buy this cd if you want to have the final chapter of the legend that was saetia.
