Editorial Reviews

Product Description

With his whimsical, melancholy music, Yann Tiersen has become a sought-after composer, not only for his soundtrack work, but in his own right. Borrowing from French folk music, chanson, musette waltz and street music, as well as rock, avant-garde, and classical and minimalist influences, Tiersen's deceptively simple style has been likened to Chopin, Erik Satie, Philip Glass, and Michael Nyman. THis is his 2005 album featuring guest vocalists Liz Frazier, Jane Birkin, Stuart Stapple & Dominique A. Virgin.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, October 5, 2006
I love this music, I cant even describe it. It is out of this world.
If you liked his soundtrack of the move Amelie, you are going to love this one, it is a little more contemporary and more diverse. Its great.

5.0 out of 5 stars The music that makes you dream, February 12, 2009
It is for sure not Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain soundtrack... Way deeper and whole-souled.

If you like the old drawer chest of your grandma and bouquet of wild flowers on top of it, if you like to sit in old grandpas chair on lazy and calm summer evening - is for you.

Les Retrouvailles is a passionate album. Happily and sadly romantic with a wonderful touch of mystery and mystique. In total, there are sixteen tracks of pure mental delight decorated with piano, accordion, harpsichord, violin, mandolin, bass, guitar, banjo, melodica, toy piano, typewriter, vibraphone and various rhythm instruments.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very solid, April 3, 2008
By Boxorice (Greenville, SC) - See all my reviews
If you are a fan of Yann Tiersen then you will like this record. I don't think it is as strong as Le Phare or Rue des Cascades but it is very solid. There are a couple songs with electric guitar, bass, and drums which are good. But personally, I like when he sticks with the traditional instruments. Elizabeth Frazer sings on 2 songs and I think that's pretty exciting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Stuff!
Although I love Tiersen's work, I don' think this is his best. I bought the cd mainly for the song "La Boulange" (fantastic tune!), but the other songs are so-so.
