The music that makes you dream,
By
This review is from: Les Retrouvailles (Audio CD)
It is for sure not Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain soundtrack... Way deeper and whole-souled.
If you like the old drawer chest of your grandma and bouquet of wild flowers on top of it, if you like to sit in old grandpas chair on lazy and calm summer evening - is for you. Les Retrouvailles is a passionate album. Happily and sadly romantic with a wonderful touch of mystery and mystique. In total, there are sixteen tracks of pure mental delight decorated with piano, accordion, harpsichord, violin, mandolin, bass, guitar, banjo, melodica, toy piano, typewriter, vibraphone and various rhythm instruments.

I can't even describe to you how great this cd is. It is simply spectacular/amazing. After hearing the soundtrack to Goodbye Lenin, I was quite disappointed. I thought that Amelie might have been the peak of Yann's career but I was very wrong. Les Retrouvailles is 120568x's better than Amelie. I definitely recommend it, especially track three...wonderfully mezzmerizing. It puts you right on the banks of the Siene looking up at the effiel tower. I am so grateful to have found this incredible music. Thanks again Yann!

I love this music, I cant even describe it. It is out of this world.
If you liked his soundtrack of the move Amelie, you are going to love this one, it is a little more contemporary and more diverse. Its great.

If you are a fan of Yann Tiersen then you will like this record. I don't think it is as strong as Le Phare or Rue des Cascades but it is very solid. There are a couple songs with electric guitar, bass, and drums which are good. But personally, I like when he sticks with the traditional instruments. Elizabeth Frazer sings on 2 songs and I think that's pretty exciting.

Music of simplicity,

i fell in love with les retrouvailles with the first time i've heard La Veilee.Real touching melody, complexity in feelings simplicity at the music side as a Tiersen classic. I got the limited edition with the DVD box.In the DVD we can see how Tiersen is creating his music, it is all about the whole recording cycle of the album. And for the audiophiles and real Tiersen fans, DVD gives the chance to see the partitions for guitar, violin, xylophone and toy piano like how he is combining the separete recordings. And for finally who loves details, he is listening to Cocteau Twins album where we can see for few seconds. Well i guess i have rambled a bit, to sum up this album is Tiersen's one of the greatest works and i can^'t finish without saying a word about Elizabeth Fraser's amazing and unique voice.

Uncanny sounds,

This is the most rewarding CD I've purchased in a very long time. It DOES have the sound, like others have said, like Amelie, but goes beyond that general "Sound". It's deeper. the 6th track sounds like a mixture of Enigma and Amelie. Others have a touch of early U2 (think Achtung Baby) Seriously... Everyone who loves music should have this record, if only for it's depth, and creative appeal.

I purchased this and several other Yann Tiersen titles after buying the Amelie soundtrack. I've enjoyed this one the most. It's very rich and enjoyable. If you like his music, I highly recommend it.

So I finally got this album for Christmas! It's a great expansion to my Yann library. As of right now track 4 ("La Veillee") and track 14 ("7:PM") are my favorites.
As for comparison to Yann's other albums, I don't find this one to be so full of melancholy like prior albums. It's not as purely French as some of his other music has been, either. I've also never been a big fan of lyrics with the music; I prefer it just by itself as I think it expresses all that it needs to without any words. I think there are 5 tracks on this album with lyrics. I will add also that unlike some others, I was not disappointed in the "Goodbye Lenin!" soundtrack. I thought the sound went perfect with the film. It did take Yann a bit out of character, but "I Saw Daddy Today" and "Summer 78" will remain some of my very favorite Yann tracks.
