More About the Author

Dave Gibbons passionately roams in three different global playgrounds: The first park is THE AWAKEN GROUP (THEAWAKENGROUP.COM), a consulting firm specializing in creativity, culture and innovation; the second park is a movement of churches not bound by geography that he calls "home" (NEWSONG.NET), throughout Southeast Asia, China, India, Korea, Mexico City, London, and North America. And lastly there is a crazy bunch of people in an organization called XEALOT that focuses on transforming marginalized communities through strategic leadership development and ideation ventures. Dave has written a book on culture and leadership based on an eastern parable called The Monkey and the Fish.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun for some people, April 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Return to the Amalgam Age of Comics (The DC Comics Collection) (Paperback)
This book, a collection of the second wave of stories featuring "amalgamated" characters from Marvel and DC, is, in short, just so-so. The first wave introduced us to fun characters like Super-Soldier (a Superman/Captain America cross), Dark Claw (Batman/Wolverine), and Amazon (Wonder Woman/Storm). It was a new experiment and a pleasant experience. The second time is not as fun; tons of back-story knowledge is required to understand the significance of any one character. Most of the fun and energy seems to be missing.

There are, indeed, redeeming factors. The story "Super-Soldier: Man of War" is set during WWII and has some endearing guest stars. "The Dark Claw Adventures" emulates the art and story of the super-popular animated Batman series. And, as always, it is an intriguing comparison of some of the finest heroes of both universes. Fans of the first series will want this book for their collection. Anyone else will want it as a coaster for their cold drink.

This is the forth and as far as I know final in a several books to have the comics from the 1990s colaberation of DC and Marvel in the DC vs Marvel (or Marvel vs DC if your prefer) that has several of the books together in one place to not only show what would happen if the worlds of DC and Marvel heroes came together, but what sort of unique combinations come from it and to see the artwork of the best in the comics industry for the time work together to create such an amazing product is wonderful. Each story allows for people who are fans of the broader base of the top comics from the 1990s to recognize who these characters are, how they are different and what sort of combinations were used to create these new and interesting heroes. Even if the hero's name is the same the character is a combination of we thought out combinations of the Best in the DC and Marvel universes told in a style as if this character and his/her/its comic have always been around adding a bit of fun and humor to the comic page. Overall if you were a fan of DC & Marvel and loved their clash in the 90s then you should definately look at this and the other 3 products out there, they are getting harder to find but they are all fun. Thanks for reading.

It was an interesting read. It was cool how the characters from DC and Marvel would interact. Nothing original about the characters.
