Editorial Reviews

Salonen provides an interesting look inside the world of Parkour/street acrobatics and her story includes lots of vivid description and nice sexual tension between Jessie and Cade.

From the Author

Dear Reader,

We are closing in on the end of the Spotlight On Sentinel Pass series. It seemed appropriate that the final two books would begin to draw us away from the Black Hill. Ironic, given the title of this book, right? But all is never what it seems at first glance.

Jessie Bouchard, a successful stunt woman who has sacrificed a great deal--even arriving too late to her dying mother's bedside--for her craft and career. She's chosen an "extreme" lifestyle of physical challenges and relentless travel as a way to avoid those sticky, unpleasant emotional tangles she witnessed in her mother's life.

Prodigal son Cade Garrity returns to his Black Hills roots, his father's ranch, knowing exactly what he wants--to build a safe, nurturing home for his daughter--a life that includes his estranged father, Buck, and his half-sister, Kat.  Would Cade be open to finding a mate? Absolutely. But his late wife chose her career over her family. He won't go down that road again--even for someone like Jessie, who tempts him to make a short-term exception to his rules.

In researching Jessie's backstory, I learned a great deal about the sports called: Parkour and Free running. The athletes are fearless, dedicated and exciting to watch. I knew I'd found my heroine when I watched stunt woman, Luci Romberg's Incredible Egg commercial on TV.

Next month, Jessie's twin sister, Remy, will close out this series. I hope you've enjoyed all nine "Spotlight on Sentinel Pass" stories. If you've missed any, Harlequin has released them all as eBooks. As a new devotee of electronic books, I highly recommend you give downloading these titles a try. What a great way to store a library!

This is the story of Cade and Jessie.

Cade is a rancher in South Dakota. Jessie is a Hollywood stunt woman. They have little in common except for the tenant-landlord relationship and an attraction to each other. When Cade meets Jessie, he is instantly impressed with her. He has trouble keeping away from her. He isn't sure if Jessie is a good role model for his daughter, but his daughter seems drawn to her, too. Jessie's stay is supposed to be temporary but Cade isn't sure he'll be able to let her leave when it is time. He starts thinking she is the one, but she isn't willing to take the leap of faith.

This story is very interesting. I liked learning about Jessie's "job" as a stunt woman. I liked learning more about Cade, and seeing how his relationship with his estranged father, Buck develops.

Return to the Black Hills (Harlequin Superromance)

RETURN TO THE BLACK HILL by Debra Salonen is among the last two books on the Spotlight on Sentinal Pass series.

The heroine, Jessie is a successful stuntwoman , who has sacrified a great deal for her career. She has chosen extreme lifestyle of physical challenges and travel to avoid the tangly emotional stuff.

Cade has an impressionable nearly teen daughter. Does he want Jessie around? His wife had chosen her "extreme" career over her family and his daughter shows signs of following in her mother's footsteps. But he feels attracted to Jessie and is drawn to her.

RETURN TO THE BLACK HILL is an emotionally fulfilling story.

This is only my second romance novel, and it is the second by this author, who is a friend of mine.

I read the Kindle edition on a recent vacation, and it was everything I expected it to be: a well-written story centered on two interesting characters, along with their friends and family, with some interesting plot twists.

The author's writing style is fluid, natural, and engaging.

I recommend this book!
