More About the Author

Ani Phyo is on a mission to show you how easy it is to enjoy healthy, organic, whole foods that are delicious, simple, and fast to prepare. Using seasonal, local, organic, fresh produce coupled with nuts and seeds, Ani creates tantalizing recipes that taste amazing, are good for you, and healthy for our planet. She teaches us why eating more organic, fresh, whole foods helps us maintain our ideal weight, lowers cholesterol, boosts our immune system, and helps us look and feel our best.

Ani learned these principles as a child. Growing up in upstate New York, her family had their own organic farm. She was raised on fresh, green juices and seasonal produce which cultivated the relationship she maintains with food today. She spent many years in the catering business and stumbled upon raw foods as a gourmet treat. After realizing the impact on her mental clarity and focus, she was hooked. She continued to notice positive changes in her energy level, productivity and sleep, and recognized there was more to raw foods than meets the eye. She's been dedicated to the raw foods lifestyle ever since.

Ani's the author of "Ani's Raw Food Essentials", "Ani's Raw Food Desserts", and "Ani's Raw Food Kitchen," awarded "Best Vegetarian Cookbook USA 2007". Ani has received 4 Best of Raw 2008 Awards for Best Chef, Favorite Cookbook, Favorite Educator, and won Sexiest Raw Vegan Woman in both 2008 and 2009.

Ani is the host of "Ani's Raw Food Kitchen Show", the award winning #1 uncooking show on 'YouTube'. Ani has been seen on the Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods, Channel 7 ABC, and has been featured in numerous magazines including Food & Wine, Alternative Medicine, Oxygen, VegNews, Delicious Living, Vegetarian Times, and Get Fresh.

Additionally, Ani has developed living food vegan menus for Carnival Cruise Lines, Adidas headquarters, STOMP, and Whole Foods Markets, amongst others. Adidas fitness center depends on Ani to consult their athletes on how to 'fuel up' with raw nutrition for optimal performance. Being an athlete herself and excelling in fields such as gymnastics and track and field in high school, Ani has a thorough knowledge of nutrition and understands the importance of fueling your body well in order to achieve maximum performance.

Her charity work includes teaching and speaking at events to help raise money and awareness for organizations like In Defense of Animals, Animal Acres, Farm Sanctuary and organizing cooking play shops for children ages 5-16. In addition, Ani volunteers at Project Angel Food, a non-profit organization providing 1,300 free meals per week to HIV and cancer patients, and teaches underprivileged kids how to garden and make food in urban areas at Community Services Unlimited in South Central LA.

Ani lives in Los Angeles with her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Kanga, who she rescued 9 years ago. Fifty pounds underweight at the time, Ani healed Kanga back to health with raw foods, applying the same principles that she uses for humans to her dog. She is currently working on her next book along with planning projects for TV, DVD, and Web. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good book on design process, not web design, October 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Return on Design: Smarter Web Design That Works (Paperback)
I'm working on a re=design of a non-profit site and had expected this book (based on the title) to give me some real-world design advice. Instead, the book focuses on the design PROCESS itself. Things like knowing who your users / customers are and what they need from your site, getting buy-in from the site owners, prototyping, testing, etc. And even then the amount of real "take-away" information is scant (in my opinion). I had used another book (The Design of Sites - highly recommend) and must have bookmarked (the old fashioned way) 100 or more pages. On Ms. Phyo's book I found only 6 pages to be valuable (to me). If you're in the market to set up a web design team or business, this is a good book. If you're looking for decent web design help, look elsewhere. My 2-cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Returning to the roots of good design, May 30, 2003

This review is from: Return on Design: Smarter Web Design That Works (Paperback)
I have to admit I had some skepticism about this book when I read the title. Don't let that stop you from picking up a copy. Ani Payo's engaging content is far from the kind you would hear at a typical marketing seminar. The book starts out defining a new process for creating sites, a workflow if you will. From there you hit the ground running. Topics that are covered range from defining the difference between print collateral content and web content, to the difference between designing for a product and designing for those that use the product. Every page of this book is packed with information that can help you create a successful site that not only meets the business objectives, but surpasses them by explaining how to get the most out of the site once it's up and before the next redesign or enhancement is added. It clearly explains every aspect of the task involved with creating a site from information design to usability engineering. If you could put the top 20 most successful sites along side of each other and take the one most effective characteristic of each site and put it within the confines of a book chapter you would have Ani Phyo's Return on Design. This book defines what it takes to create a good and successful web site. I would recommend this book to any web professional from armatures to seasoned experts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just-in-Time Design for Web Applications, June 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Return on Design: Smarter Web Design That Works (Paperback)
If you ever wanted a 7-step recipe for designing applications for Web delivery, this is the book for you. I appreciate the time and money I am saving on my current Web project by following a tested process that really works.
Regardless if you are responsible for site management, defining system requirements, Web content development, visual design, back-end programming, or usability testing of Web-delivered applications, following this process is both cost effective and fun. Return on Design is a gourmet meal consisting of step-by-step procedures, supportive examples, visuals, resources, and a consistent information design approach, which all serve to differentiate this Web design book from the others.
The bottom line is: do you want your site to be revenue generating? Your chances for success are better if you follow a user-centered design "recipe" for success.
