5.0 out of 5 stars The Mighty Chango...
This is one of the more sophisticated and enjoyable Spanish rock bands I have heard in quite awhile !Their blend of ska, funk, rock, reggae, various Latin rhythms is somewhat comparable to the sounds of Sublime from the Westcoast but with more conviction and drive. Their sound is a lot bolder and edgier. Everything from the slick guitar riffs,to the deep house- bass is phenomenal and energetic. This is a highly recommended listen if you like the sounds from other Latin pop-rock groups such as Mana, Los Lobos, The Venezuelan Gods, and Los De Abajo... Snatch this one up at your local store or on-line retailer !

King Chango returns with a tour de force follow up to their debut self titled "King Chango." This sophmore effort takes off with more mixtures of styles including salsa, merengue, cumbia, dub, reggae, ska, rag-a-mufin toasting, rock, electronica and tinges of practically every genre. So does it work? A resounding yes. These rude boys deliver various styles, often within one song, it's like a trance song that dips and turns and twists all the while staying on the latin track. This is like music for a paaaarteeeee!! It's like one big jam session. The grooves just blend, flowing nonstop, the rhythms flow, converging on a common ground that is guaranteed to make you move, whatever you're doing you'll feel more energized about it. Favorite tracks are "Brujeria" with references to "la bruja, estupida, arrugada, ridicula." They have sense of humor. "Sin Ti" is a nice down tempo song , reggae infused back beat that starts out in Spanish, reverts to English, back to Spanish again as lead singer and frontman Blanquito eventually delivers some rag-a-muffin. "Step me Down " is like a cross between Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers with Tower of Power horns meeting Orbital. My faves are in Spanish but the majority of the songs are in English. For English speakers start with this CD, if you favor Spanish language buy the first CD. Either way you can't go wrong-these guys rock, son rockeros de primera!! For a different musical experience, that pleases many tastes, I would definatley recommend this CD for some summer paaaaarteeeeeing!!

well, actually 4 1/2 **** I loved the originality and humor of "King Chango" and I eagerly awaited the new CD, checking their site frequently. While I love the combination of styles...it's never boring and always changing...this one's quite a bit smoother than the first. They seamlesly shift from one style to another, cumbia to ska to reggae to merengue to rock-en-espanol, blending the seque so well that you don't even realize it. The musicianship of everyone is awesome, they are so tight on those transitions; and I love the base line that I also felt so strongly on the earlier recording...it's a prominent element of most of their songs. The listening here is "easier", but still very pleasureful. But I really missed the quality of Blanquito's voice that came through so strongly on the first CD...there was a lot more intensity all around on it. But, for some, this CD may be more accessible. and certainly worth owning.

as an alternate blend of futuristic world music, i'll recommend evoka and garmarna

I haven't listen to The Return of el Santo yet, but I did see them perform in Toronto, what a show! They are an incredible band with a lot of good energy and sense of humor. Not many people can jump as much as blanquito who also is a very kind individual. Their music simply is a reflection of what we all are and a severe revelion against ugly things in life. I found myself embraced by their lirics and the great rythem given to the public. Fack they are just adorable and the woman of the group is a gifted player... yeah! I am sure the CD is not a joke.

A tighter collection of grooves from Blanquito and crew this time around. Everything's here from salsa, reggae, ska, dub, all thrown into the blender and served up spicy hot with modern touches. If you liked the first one, you'll really like this one.
