The concept for Fly My Pretties was created in 2004 by The Black Seeds front man Barnaby Weir. Barnaby decided he wanted to collaborate with an assorted group of uniquely talented musicians who reside in the Wellington, New Zealand. He wanted to gather these artists together in one spot, record what might evolve during their time together, film it as it happened. and then let it fly. This vinyl sees four songs of Wellington's most respected artists, recorded live on stage, coming together for one four night showcase at the Bats Theatre. The featured musicians hail from diverse bands including Fat Freddy's Drop and The Phoenix Foundation. 'Let's Roll', the rockiest number of the Bats shows and first FMP album, has been a popular song on record and at Fly My Pretties live shows ever since. The full CD albums 'Fly My Pretties - Live At Bats' (LP024) and also the follow-up CD/DVD album 'The Return Of Fly My Pretties' (LP032) have both sold gold-status in New Zealand, with the Fly My pretties live ensemble playing large festival across New Zealand on a regular basis.
