4.0 out of 5 stars OG Funk, August 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Return of the Funky Man (Audio CD)
Finesse has done music for OC, Biggie, Brand Nubian, and Blue Note Records, but before all that he was a super-talented ( well he still is ) punchline rapper. This is a treasure from the golden period of East Coast hiphop ('87-'94 ) with beats from Diamond, Show b-i and The funkyman himself. This is beats and rhymes wtih the alll-natural funk. If you dig deep enough in the crates you will find it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lord Finesse delivers wit and funk!, October 18, 2000
This review is from: Return of the Funky Man (Audio CD)
Lord Finesse improves on his first effort by using more obscure funk samples and drops some witty rhymes. I think that he's utterly hilarious and full of flava!

this was the least sold but his finest effort to date. hopefully he will be dropping another album next year! All his fans are waiting for his funky go-ahead, simple-set production and utterly unique stylings of his voice!

peaze everyone and cop this mf! Prinz alfie

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites., August 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Return of the Funky Man (Audio CD)
For me, this album took "Funky Technician" to the next level. Finesse was 19 and funky on his last LP, but now he's 21 and hungry here. The production has advanced from simple James Brown loops to thunderous anthems (Fat for the 90's, Praise the Lord, the title track) cool posse cuts (Yes You May, Show 'Em How We Do Things) and laid back grooves (Hey Look at Shory, That's How Smooth I Am). This is the best comeback album ever; Finesse was dropped by Wild Pitch and floating in musical Limbo for a a year. Nice album all the way through.

Punchlines for days... The Funky man LORD FINESSE comes correct. The best rhymes done over some ol' school funk. Don't sleep. Add it to your collection right next to your showbiz & ag cd's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vodka and this album goes together, and I mean that in a good way!!!!, August 22, 2009
This review is from: Return of the Funky Man (Audio CD)
I cried!!! I am a grown-a%&-man, and I cried. I remember this album when I had it on cassette back in 1993. When I saw the low price, I grab this and have been crying since. This is HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone needs to tell the generation of today that this is HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!!! With a little bit of Vodka and this CD, you will think that you are at a hip hop concert in the early 90's!!!!!!!!!

It's nice to see this still available. I never owned this album, but picked up "Yes, You May" on 12" many years ago. Glad I know have the album. Finesse's rhymes are on point, production is what I would expect from the DITC crew, nothing less than top-notch. Guest spots are uncredited in the liner notes: Percee P, Andre the Giant, Shel-Rumble, and Harry-O. Production by Finesse, Showbiz, Diamond D, Aladdin and SLJ.
Overall, WELL worth the low price. If you are a DITC fan: you need this album in the library. If you are fan of 1990's hip-hop and not familiar with the DITC crew, get familiar ad start here...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good ol' days, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Return of the Funky Man (Audio CD)
Actually my rating is 3.5 out of 5 stars but considering the fact that this grading system doesn't allow this type of rating I'm inclined to give this album 4. Not his best album but still a good listen considering the crap that comes out these days. But if you never listend to his solo works than the right place for you to start is his first album with DJ Mike Smooth and after that check out the Awakening those albums are deffenitely 5 stars.
