This review is from: Return Of The 1 Hit Wonder (Audio CD)
Young MC, the man who gave you the hugely selling album "Stone Cold Rhymin'" (which, nearly 10 years after it's release, still out-sells any other YMC release) officially flopped in 1993, after his third album, "What's The Flavor?" fell flat. Four years later, in 1997, he returns on an independent L.A. label, Overall Records, and does a good job. The lyrics are your usual innocent tounge in cheek variety, although they rarely range from the topic of love and relationships (which, is unheard of in rap, and albums like this prove that point) and his attempts with dirty talk sound silly and lame. With that said, it's still witty stuff, which is what Young made his name off of in the first place. His lyrical deliveries are as smooth as ever. And the production work, which was done almost entirely by Young, is painfully simple, but at the same time very funky and catchy. Bottom line: this is your average fluff CD, but not in the same sense of somethin! ! g by, for example, the Spice Girls, because Young does have some depth. Just pop in the CD and groove to the funky tunes. Don't try to listen to hard to this CD, or you'll be dissapointed. It's not that great, but it's a more honest and heartfelt effort than half of the other rap albums out today, and Young deserves a better fate.
