Dad and son (age 8) reading this book. I read to him every night and we have worked through all the other books in order. Many people complain that his writing isn't the same...we'll he's a different person and I can accept that. The book is still cute and has a neat way about it.

I gave this to a new mother who'd loved Winnie the Pooh when she was a child. She was thrilled to have it to read to her children.

I loved A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh series when I was young. In fact, The House at Pooh Corner (Pooh Original Edition) was the first full-length book I ever read. The stories of a little boy who was actually playing with his toys and woodland animals in his imagination are certainly quite charming. That led on to my reading other books, and many of the childhood classics I enjoyed so have become treasured pieces in my library.

Many of the books I've loved have had sequels written since: Peter Pan (100th Anniversary Edition) has been followed with the film Hook and the book Peter Pan in Scarlet, The Chronicles of Narnia were followed by an ill-fated and largely forgotten book called The Giant Surprise: A Narnia Story, goodness knows how many people have written further adventures for Alice and the Wonderland and Looking-Glass characters, and similarly, there is a countless number of further adventures in the Land of Oz written after L. Frank Baum's death. Many of these books feel like poor imitations of the initial author's style.

I'm REALLY surprised by all of the negative reviews. If I didn't know this was written by a different author, I would believe it was written by A.A. Milne - the style is that similar.

To my constant surprise my toddler has loved being read to from the Winnie-the-Pooh books since he was 2 years old, so I HAD to buy this one and see what it was like. We absolutely loved it!

Poignantly, the book has Christopher Robin coming home from school for a summer vacation. The animals are so excited to have him back - it's so touching. Christopher Robin is a big boy, he brings a bicycle to the Hundred Acre Wood, and a new character, Lottie, is introduced - and all flows seamlessly into the world we have come to love. Lottie is a good addition to the cast of characters. One thing my husband and I always comment on is how the Pooh characters, in their honest protrayal is a good sampling of different personalities and they all get along, appreciating each others' gifts and forgiving the shortcomings. Lottie adds another dynamic and the characters once again prove that everyone has something to offer when they decide to start a school.

If you are truly a Pooh FAN, and not a Pooh snob, I HIGHLY recommend this great addition to the family!!!! You won't be disappointed.

Of course everyone is looking rather sternly down their noses at this brash attempt to replicate the beloved A.A. Milne's stories and E.H. Shepard's illustrations, but it really is not bad at all. The stories are sweet and simple and ramble a bit as they should. The illustrations are adorable with the characters for the most part looking just like they did (esp Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit). The drawings are paler and simpler, with less of Shepard's dark strokes, than those in my very colorful Complete Tales & Poems of Winnie the Pooh. They are charming and most definitely follow the brush of Shepard. Roo is a funny little thing, always seems to be the same shape, Pooh a bit rounder.

The biggest shock is that Christopher Robin is much older (and I didn't particularly care for his illustration). So of course he speaks more maturely and attempts to teach his friends some things he's learned at school, for better or worse. Eeyore actually seems less gloomy now. Lottie the Otter reminds me of Kanga, bossy in that motherly way, even more worldly (re sardines, "Are they Portuguese?"). Readers must not be snobbish and close their minds against new friends. Lottie is a lesser character and fits in all right here, following in the tradition of Milne introducing new characters.

Overall, I found the book an admirable sequel to the originals, both in story and drawing. One has to allow for time passing. A boy cannot help but grow and change, but to David Benedictus' credit he manages to keep to the heart of A.A. Milne. I do hope, however, that we don't find Christopher Robin returning as a teen.
