powerful action-packed thriller,
This review is from: The Return (Paperback)
In Beaufort, Georgia, Jesus Christ apparently has returned to the earth performing local miracles such as the return from the dead of the daughter of famous evangelist Don Bagley. Through global communications of the modern world and Bagley's sponsorship, his fame grows rather quickly. However, as Jesus becomes a fixture on TV, he lambastes the modern Catholic Church for its corruption. The Vatican decides not to check into whether this man is the real article or an incredible con artist. Instead, they hire a hit man to silence Jesus. At the same time as the Vatican puts in motion its assassination plot, Monsignor Harry Chifley engages disbelieving Wisconsin priest turned New York book store employee Brian Sheridan, an expert on the early days of the Church, to investigate this so-called Jesus. Writer Marie Olivier, who he met over a reflexology book in the store, accompanies him. As the two make inquiries into the contemporary Jesus, they are unaware of the threats from the Vatican and locally. The underlying concept of THE RETURN is brilliantly designed so that the audience must keep reading to determine whether Jesus is walking the twenty-first century earth. However, on the other hand, the myriad of subplots from the hysterical reaction of the Vatican to the romance between Father Brian and Marie take away from the basic theme. Still Joe de Mers has written a powerful action-packed thriller that will receive either praise from religious conspiracy buffs or the Rusdie reaction. Harriet Klausner

Very entertaining throughout, an exciting read although it drags a bit in some places, but enjoyable nonetheless. It seems as if something like this could happen, people getting caught up in the reappearance of Christ without question.

This is a very good read for a bargain book, well written and very descriptive. Not religious but quite realistic. It did seem to drag in places but not enough to deter one from reading and enjoying.

This review is from: The Return: 9 (Hardcover)
I thought this was a very well written book . It kept my attention through most of it . I could picture the descriptions of places and people and could even smell some of it . Mr DeMers knows how to draw a picture from words and I would like to read more of his novels. The story made me want to keep turning pages.

The Second Coming?,

This review is from: The Return: 9 (Hardcover)
As soon as I read the premise on the jacket, I had to read this... and I wasn't disappointed! Joe De Mers spins a compelling tale of modern religion's reaction to the second coming of Jesus Christ. The plot and twists throughout mimic modern day morality, or lack thereof, while presenting even an agnostic with a glimmer of hope for mankind. I found myself wanting the tale to be true, while admonishing those who would keep the future from happening. Anyone who wishes for a better world will find themselves drawn into this book head first. This is one of the better attempts at examining present day morality and beliefs and how it compares to what God had originally intended.
