4.0 out of 5 stars Best Volume Yet, May 17, 2009
This review is from: Return to Labyrinth Volume 3 (v. 3) (Paperback)
Like most who have been reading Return to Labyrinth I was disappointed by the first volume. The second one brought it home for me with it's awesome storytelling, but still lacked in the drawing department. Volume three is starting to bring the story together, and wow is it ever a story. Sarah/Jareth fans rejoice, we got incredibly exciting Sarah/Jareth moments, and a twist that's sure to leave you feeling for Sarah as well as leave your heart aching for Jareth. If you wanted a love story--and come on, who didn't--this volume is going to give it to you. The artwork is still terribly misleading with the cover artist who's incredible, not doing the actual drawings in the book, and the book artist...well, he draws better than me, but no where near the caliber I would have liked to have seen for a book with this much anticipation. All in all, you're not reading this story for the drawings anyway, it's all about the story, and the story is getting down right fantastic! If you like Return to Labyrinth you're going to love this volume, and you should be out there buying it right now, taking it home, reading it, and doing what Sarah would have done, daydream about the dark brooding king and his wayward queen. If you're a fan of the movie Labyrinth and you haven't picked up this series or picked up the first volume, got discouraged and haven't done anything since, it's time to pick it up, because the story is fantastic, and romance, intrigue, and revenge are in the air. Finally, if you didn't even know Return to Labyrinth was even out there, where have you been? Go out and buy this manga...WE GOT ROMANCE PEOPLE!

Be warned however, the author's note in the back of the book seems to suggest we've got another long wait for the final volume (this is a 4 volume series). Since we've been waiting a year and a half for this volume, I'm guessing we've got at least another year for volume 4. But listen, go out, read volumes 1-3, rewatch Labyrinth, remember why you loved it so much, and then go to www.fanfiction.net and read some good fanfiction to tide you over. And if you don't know what fanfiction is, you're in for the treat of your life!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others in the series, June 15, 2009

This review is from: Return to Labyrinth Volume 3 (v. 3) (Paperback)
For anyone who's been paying attention to this series from the beginning knows that it took the writers and artists just over a year between the first and second mangas. But this one took just under 2 years! With the amount of time they took I thought this one was going to be great, especially after the second one! I was sadly mistaken.

Personally I didn't think this one was that good. The artistry really lacked, more than usual, and it was very obvious compared to the second manga. It didn't seem like they really knew how to put this one together. Such a short amount of things happened but took so long to get around to. It also didn't feel believable like the others, meaning it was much harder to really be drawn into the story.

The one thing that just kept bugging me what how Jareth was drawn, and while he's not the main character in this series, he still greatly matters. There were times that he actually looked, well, fat! Like he'd randomly been squashed down and got a beer belly, or the cloths looked cheap. It was odd.

It saddens me that the third one didn't live up to it's previous mangas and I have a bad feeling it'll be a while til the final one. I would give this one 3 1/2 stars if possible because I certainly have read worse, and this wasn't terrible, just not as good as the others. If the last one looks and feels as bad as this one I fear it may kill a great story.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, June 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Return to Labyrinth Volume 3 (v. 3) (Paperback)
This is really no work of art. The artwork is nothing special (at all), and the story seems to have been written by a 15-year old. It does not really develop the relationship between Jareth and the girl, the protagonists here are mostly new, and very bidimensional. I bought all three volumes because I really liked the movie. Big mistake.
People seem to have liked this volume better, yet it is part of the collection and still not very good, just slightly better than the previous one. Jareth comes back with a little mystery, but if you're looking for a sequel or development of Labyrinth's story and magic, this is not it.
