This review is from: Return to Love: A Novel (Paperback)
Return to Love addressed many important themes, didn't pull any punches or sugar-coat the subjects. A worthwhile read, but some of the writing could have been stronger. I felt too many scenes were "told" rather than "shown". Especially glossed over were some of the most emotional scenes between Trevor and Janna. Instead of giving the reader a word by word, blow by blow (emotional, not physical) description of some of the actual interaction between these two characters, we were simply told "such and such passed between them", then read the after effects of the scene, which left me with a bit of a dissatisfied feeling. I would like to have gotten under the characters' skins more, experienced what they were experiencing in some of these dramatic scenes, rather than simply be "told" a scene happened. Still, given the topics Return to Love tackled, I thought it overall a worthwhile read.

This book deals with issues like teen pregnancy, abuse, and abandonment. Anita Stansfield has written a series of books that all tie in together. I've read nearly all of them and this is by far my favorite. I really liked the characters JannaLyn and Colin. This book showed the powers of prayer and love. Prayer lead them back to each other and love kept them together. Oh yeah, this book isn't about Mallory and her husband. The other reviewer got that mixed up. Anyway, I can read this book over and over again, and just skim through the best parts. Read it. You'll enjoy it.

I found this book to be very touching. It had a lot of true to life subjects such as first loves, unwed mothers, spouse abuse, human kindness. I couldn't put this book down. I cried a lot through it. I can't wait to read the authors other books.

I look forward to fixing my review when and if Deseret Books/Covenant can fix the Colin/ Corm mistakes. Throughout the book Colin is being picked up by the Kindle Software as Corm. This mistake doesn't appear in paperback book form so I know it's a software glitch.I sure hope it gets fix and someone will allow me to re-download it. At that point I will give the book the 5 stars it deserves. If you can overlook this glitch this is a great "scary" book. Scary because Russell shows up in several books until... I'm not telling! Russell is someone who should make women stop and think about. If women would think about the man and how he treats her and the other women in his life--more Russel's would be stopped before there really is trouble. Dear Abby said it best years ago-- how a man treats his mother is a great tool for how he might treat you. In this day I would tell you how a young man treats the women in his life (librarian, ladies at Church, the checker) may well tell you how he perceives women in general. Don't waste your time falling in love with a Russell. Move on. Listen Russell's do exist. And they aren't worth it. You aren't going to save them because in their mind they don't need saving. This is a hugely impactful book if you allow it to be. If you are in a relationship with a Russell and there aren't kids RUN AS FAST YOU CAN. Make some plans. Remember safety is paramount. These particular books should clue you into that. Man if there kids get to a women's shelter. They can help you. In this day and age I'd be truly scared if a young woman started hanging out with anyone like Russell. They need help maybe more than Russell because there thinking I did something to deserve this. Not true.

Return to Love is a wonderful story about love, friendship, abuse, but most importantly throughout it, faith. It is easy to read; and very hard to put down. It offers an insight into the life of members of the Church of Latter Day Saints, and wraps the reader up in the love of the characters.

As an avid reader of Anita's work, this book was terrific. For mormon readers that question the here-after and the love Heavenly Father sends our way. The outcome was a welcome surprise. May Thomas and Mallory survive the future.
