Book Description

December 15, 2004
Did you know a horse can teach you what true moxie is?

A yearling whitetail buck encounters a hunter and then wrestles for his life. A boy falls through the ice and finds an ingenious way to save himself. A German shepherd chases away an apparition. All are episodes of the courage displayed in Return to Manitou. In this poignant and inspiring sequel to Clifford of Drummond Island, two Morgan horses live by example, showing their owner how to survive injury, tragedy and grief. A true story and an unforgettable read.

Praise for Clifford of Drummond Island:

“Author Bailey has come up with a winning true story about Clifford the Morgan Horse that is witty, engaging, and at times, laugh out loud funny. Best of all, Bailey admits to her equine shortcomings with hilarious results.”—Hallie McEvoy, Horseman’s Yankee Pedlar

“An entertaining and heartwarming read.”—Jill Lowe Brumwell, author, Drummond Island History, Folklore and Early People

More About the Author

Can you hear that sound? It's the trees calling. That primeval urge to go home to the woods, to smell the air, and the innate need for Quiet are things that motivate me. Though I currently live in southeast Michigan, it is this need that causes me to hitch up the horse trailer and haul my family of animals six hours north to Drummond Island each year.

Someone once described me as a "woodsy ragamuffin." This is pretty accurate, except for the seemingly incongruous fact that, like many thespians, I enjoy dressing up. There are various reasons people do stage plays: A love of the arts; a desire to be someone else at least temporarily; an urge to behave erratically in a public forum. While all these apply to me, my main reason is that I am, quite simply, a ham. I love karaoke too. There's nothing like bopping around on stage in leather pants, swinging a microphone and forcing a crowd of strangers to listen to my slightly off-key version of, "Tracks of My Tears."

I'm sort of an amature behaviorist, having loved to learn different aspects of animal training. My horse Clifford does many tricks, and continues to make his own stuff up, providing me with lots of story material. I hope we will spend many more years together.

A true story that all family members can read and hard to put down. Mixed up with some comedy, sadness but most of all. a pure determination of the spirit of the author. Takes you to a place she knows and makes you feel you've been there. I fell in love with Clifford too.Ms. Nancy Bailey is unafraid to put her all into this- Inspiring Recommend this one highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another amazing story by Nancy J. Bailey, March 6, 2009
By
This review is from: Return to Manitou (Paperback)
This Michigan author did it again! Nancy J. Bailey had my rapt attention and my heartstrings while I read "Return to Manitou". I laughed, I cried, I sympathized and I was amazed. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Clifford, Trudy, and and all her animals (as well as Drummond Island) will star in a third book. Just by being herself, never giving up and going after what she wants, Nancy is an inspiring lady.
