Ah, the movie is perfect, the soundtrack isn't,

I was disappointed by the soundtrack. where is the Frank Sinatra song that was one of the most wonderful moments in this wonderful movie? and the heart breaking song (no pan intended) that was the background of the heart transplant operation? the songs in the CD are nice and sweet, but the two most important pieces are not there and that's a huge disappointment. a movie that good deserved an equal soundtrack. WHERE IS FRANKIE?

Disappointing,

I LOVE LOVE LOVED the movie, and eagerly purchased this soundtrack thinking the best of the best would be included. NOT SO! The CD contains LESS THAN 40 minutes of tunes, most are somber and unmemorable, and with the exception of the title track including both Dean Martin and Joey Gain's wonderful versions, this is lacking all the guts of the movie...like when they dance in the garden and Blue Eyes sings his heart out. Or when Gracie gets her heart transplant and the sweet vocals of JEWEL play in the background. There was so much emotion in this movie and in the music accompanying it; too bad for the most part this CD just missed the impact.

Where's Jewel?,

I saw part of this movie being filmed in Chicago and really enjoyed it ... it has special meaning to me. I haven't bought the soundtrack yet but was very disappointed to find that Jewel's "Angel Standing By" was not included. What a powerfully emotional song to play during the transplant scene - each family's heartwrenching emotions were very well portrayed.

Five Stars From the President of the Dean Martin Fan Center,

Not only is this movie(written and directed by Bonnie Hunt)an excellent treat... but the film score is the other half of the enjoyment. The score is composed and conducted by Nicholas Pike, who does a wonderful job with keeping the feelings intertwined. The biggest surprise is the title song (which was a million seller for Dean Martin) "Return to Me". Hunt and Pike rewrote and added a new brassy "big band" track under Dean Martin's classic rendition, and it is so cleverly done, that any Dean Martin fan will be totally blown away. There are also two more Dino songs, not commonly heard, along with a few selections from the Jackie Gleason orchestra that played all the time on the radio's in the early to mid 60's. Best of all are the new songs that were written and produced for the film, and a great new vocalist, Joey Gian. Nicholas Pike is a master! As president of the Dean Martin Fan Center, I would reccommend this cd to anyone and give it 5 stars!

Why aren't Movies Like This Anymore???,
This review is from: Return to Me: Music from the MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I watched this movie for the first time just recently, and I'm amazed at how good it was. It is now my favorite movie. But what's best about it is the soundtrack! The soundtrack was perfect to the setting and represents the feelings of the characters. The characters are all traditional and this music really reflects that and makes the movie that much more enjoyable. I admit that I was dissappointed to see that Jewel's Angel Standing By(played during the transplant scene and David Duchovny breaking down) wasn't on there as well as Frank Sinatra's Long Last Love (the guy's selection for Gracie and Bob to listen to in the garden). The best part of the whole cd, is that they put the songs that Joey Gian sings on it. I was amazed at what a good singer he is. I've never heard of him until I saw him in this movie. He is up there with Harry Connick Jr! Even though Jewel And 'Ol Blue Eyes didn't make it on the cd doesn't take away from the general representation of the movie. Because all the rest of the music is on here and no music "inspired" by the movie, it really makes it worth getting. Buy this cd, croon and swoon with Dean Martin, Joey Gian, and the Jackie Gleason Orchestra. It will make you FEEL good and maybe even wear out your copy of the movie!

Great Soundtrack,
By Matthew (Sacramento, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I really loved this film, and it's nice to have this great music in the background. The Joey Gian tune that plays at the reception is here, and I really like that one as well. Like one of the previous reviewers, I was annoyed that "At Long Last Love" the Sinatra/Cole Porter tune that backs the Wedding Reception scene wasn't in the CD. I looked it up, and picked up Sinatra's "A Swingin' Affair", which contains the song, along with many other greats. All in all, well worth the purchase! I hope that "Return to Me" finds its place next to "When Harry Met Sally" and such, a real feel-good collection of music. I, like Bonnie Hunt, remember the Jackie Gleason Orchestra playing throughout our house as a kid, and it brings many fond memories.

This is the best soundtrack that has been out in a very long time, makes you want to go back in time of the big band era. I only wish they had included the song by Jewel, and Frank Sinatra. Those were two very nice songs overlooked, too bad. Maybe they will make a 2nd version to the soundtrack and include the 2 songs....wouldn't that be great. Who couldn't fall in love with this movie. You walk out of the movie feeling good inside, this is one of those grab your best friend and go back to the movie, watch it over and over again.

Good - But Not Quite Complete,

This review is from: Return to Me: Music from the MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I loved the music they put together for the soundtrack, but why oh why did they leave off Frank Sinatra & Jewel? The song sung by Jewel is the main reason I wanted the soundtrack in the first place. As much as I adore both the movie, and the music available from it, I was still dissapointed.

I think the Frank Sinatra song played during the garden/dancing scene was "At Long Last Love." I wish it were included in this soundtrack!

Dean Martin and Jackie Gleason "Return to Me",

The 1950s-feeling "Return to Me" is brilliantly soundtracked in this CD. One can easily see Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in the roles of Bob and Grace, and this soundtrack proves that you don't need tacky baselines or a cheap synthesizer to make music beautiful again.
