4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game
Overall a good game. You will occasionally need to refer to a walkthrough (You can find one that some kind soul posted free online by Googleing the title of a game and "walkthrough".) However, almost all adventure/puzzle games are like this. Either you periodically refer to a walkthrough, or you get frustrated at some point where you are stuck and shelve the game...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I found the game somewhat boring and hard to follow. It was frustrating not being able to do things with the multiple tools I had in my inventory. While this is not my type of game, people interested in assembling things and making "experiments" might enjoy it.

Nice graphics. Some of the cutscenes are very simple, comic-book like drawings with sound. This sounds cheap, and I am sure it saved a lot of programming time as compared to computer animations, but it is really quite enjoyable. In fact, I think I liked it better than animated cutscenes!

Overall, a good game. I wish they had more adventure games like this. No blabbing, droning dialog that goes on forever. No endless reading of volumous diaries. Just problem solving and exploration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Original Adventure Game Play, March 2, 2009

I got this game with 5 others in an Adventure Company collection pack. This game by far had the most original gameplay of any Adventure game I've ever played. There are multiple ways to resolve a puzzle and items can be used many times in may different ways by combining with other items and deconstructing items to make entirely new items. Where other adventure games have their limits, Return to the Mysterious Island goes as far as any adventure game has in creating an inventory system where you can combine items in a way the reflects the human imagination, rather than a programer's limitations. The game has beautiful graphics and fascinating puzzles. I only wish the game were longer.

While it is a short game, I really enjoyed it. The challenges are not too hard. It's just like being shipwrecked for real and having to figure out survival skills. I enjoyed it a lot!

4.0 out of 5 stars What an Adventure Game Should Be, May 17, 2007

Return to Mysterious Island is an interactive adventure game about a women who ends up shipwrecked on an island and must find a way off.

FUN and NON-LINEAR!

The best feature of this game is that it is completely non-linear. You can play the game in any order and there are several different ways to solve problems. This allows the player more creativity. The puzzles range from easy to challenging and I am sure there are still some things I did not figure to do the first time I played!

GRAPHICS/MUSIC

The graphics are pretty good, though most of the action is seen in cartoon drawings rather than in actual action. The music is decent too.

This is a great game for Adventure game for adventure game lovers!

The best thing about this game is the way you can combine objects to make new ones. Then you can take them apart again to make a different object. The Adventure Company RETOMYSTISLAND Return To Mysterious Island [windows 98/me/2000/xp]

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 4, 2007

I personally found this game to be the most fun Adventure Game I have played, and believe me, I've played alot of them.

My favorite aspect of this game is the inventory interaction. Having to combined items to make other items was more fun than playing the actual game. I hope there is a sequel!!!!

Terrific graphics, easy navigation, challenging variety of puzzles. My only complaint was that it wasn't long enough!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for blonds.... )))), September 15, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Return to Mysterious Island (CD-ROM)
I am beeing a little sarcastic naming my review "Not for blonds" and hope I'm not offending anybody, since I'm a blond myself! ))) but this game is too complicated if you are not into phisics and chemistry (which lots of us girls are not into)!! If you expect this game to take you to a different world, tell you a story full of unexpected twists and turns with some nice music, sound and video clips, then you'll be disappoined. All this game is about is walking around the island, finding a zillion things (half of which are useless afterall) and somehow figuring out how to combine them to make life-essential things.
However, if you are into science, into "how to survive in the wilderness", if you know basics of phisics and chemistry, if you can figure out how to use some black after-fire smoke, scraped off the wall (which I never managed to do) this game is for you!
I was stuck all the time and in the end got so frustrated that never finished the game (and never going to), but I knew a guy, who loved it and he went though the whole game in one evening!!
Anyway, if you are a female-blond and will complete this game without a walkthrough, I'm going to eat my shoe!!!! ))) (unless you are a university professor or a scientist)!!
