Book Description

February 3, 2009
A body in a casket burns in the Willamette River and the homeless dance in the searchlight of doom, while the cosmos turns on the true meaning of morality. Years later, in a desolate desert landscape two women meet in a café. Waitress Wanda wields a spatula and tells a laughing Bette the ribald story of how she met her deceased husband. Within minutes, a violent act leaves Bette severely brain injured, and Wanda commits to her care. Their relationship becomes the target of a perverse minister who uses them for his own aggrandizement. Evangelicals, gays, Indians and the homeless converge on the women in the protest march from Hell, agitated by Mark Twain and his final creation, No. 44. This story of struggle and devotion will hold you. You will root for the endearing characters, and the triumph of sweet, sweet good, over sanctimonious evil.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wild, Funny, Entertaining, High-Speed Yarn, February 21, 2009
This review is from: The Return of No. 44 (Paperback)
Bob Rogers' is a phenomenal writer, and his first book, "The Return of No. 44", is a wild, funny, entertaining, high-speed yarn, spun like I once thought only Mark Twain could spin a story.
Bob's gift is his ability to paint vivid, colorful word pictures of some of the most interesting people you will ever meet. He is also blessed with a precocious imagination, a well-honed tool he has mastered to take your mind's eye on one of the most unpredictable, raucous journeys it will ever travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Return of No. 44, September 16, 2009
This review is from: The Return of No. 44 (Paperback)
It was a very good read - quite believable. I advocate the concept of "pass it on". Pass It On would have made a good title.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Return of No. 44, May 16, 2009
This review is from: The Return of No. 44 (Paperback)
I was hook by chapter two and found it hard to put down. The characters jumped off the page with stark realism. The landscapes and locations seemed real enough to touch. While I was not prepared for the dark side of this novel I enjoyed it. Great first novel and I'm sure it won't be the last. Looking forward to more. Bob Rogers is an author to watch out for.
