5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular roots of the Seattle sound!
If you want to hear the band that spawned the 'Seattle sound', you can't get much better than this. It's pre-Mother Love Bone...pure, unbridled L'Andrew at his early best. Don't miss this one, a MUST HAVE for Mother Love Bone fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars Historical document for 90s Seattle scene fans.
Probably more valuable from a historical perspective than anything else, Malfunkshun was one of the early bands in the Seattle scene that gave birth to grunge music. Featuring the late vocalist Andrew Wood (legendary for his place as the vocalist of Mother Love Bone, featuring future Pearl Jam members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, and subject of the tribute Temple of the...

4.0 out of 5 stars A must have album for every 'Seattle Sound' fans, June 28, 2001

This album is a great record! This is the ONLY Malfunkshun album ever recorded. Every recording on this album are pretty much like "early" Mother Love Bone demos. This record is also pre-Devilhead and pre-Satchel. This is way before Pearl Jam existed. Track 6 is the live version of Ted Nugent's "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang". The bonus track on this album which is Track 33 is the live version of "With Yo' Heart, Not Yo' Hands". Tracks 13 through 32 are just that "annoying" blank CD like the Nine Inch Nails 'Broken' EP. I highly recommend this album to every Pearl Jam fans, old or new. Every Pearl Jam fans MUST have this album even if it may be difficult to find. It's worth the hunt though.

Well, Seattle, Mother Love Bone, Seattle, Andrew Wood, Seattle... it's enough, I think. You shouldn't miss this CD, it's a cult.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST "LOST" ALBUMS EVER, June 21, 2006
This review is from: Return to Olympus (Audio CD)
Wood's vocals are flat out incredible on this record. I dont think there are 3 songs in a row better than " until the ocean, wanna be your daddy, and winter bites on very many records. Its a little harder to get through the songs 3-6 though. Your not getting the powerful ballads like Wood later did with M.L.B. such as Chloe Dancer or Man of Golden Words. However his voice seems more powerful here. His brother can hit you with some sweet change of pace riffs and great solo's on winter bites. Well worth the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Malfunkshun, July 6, 2010

I bought this album back in the summer of 1995 when it was released on Stone Gossard's then new label Loosegroove. my copy was an import that also came with a limited edtion andrew wood card which i still have sealed and have never opened to this day.the album is andy and his brother kevin's first band.there are a lot of good rock songs here that take you back to the early seattle sound the album was finished and never released in Andy's lifetime.a few tracks were used on deep six a best of seattle album that was released in 1985 that had songs by Malfunkshun Soundgarden and other bands.the best songs are winterbites,my only fan,mr liberty and until the ocean which sounds like the ballads andy would write later on in MLB.if you are a huge andy or seattle music fan like me than this cd is worth getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some amazing songs, December 29, 2008

Malfunkshun was a great band. They were capable of making some good music, but sometimes I wonder what they were thinking. The good songs on this album are: "Jezebel Woman", "Winter Bites", "I Wanna Be Yo Daddy", "Region", and "Until the Ocean". These songs are absolutely amazing, but the other half of the album is nowhere near as well executed and just awesome sounding as the 5 good songs on the album. And the blank tracks are annoying, there's no need for it. Is the album worth buying? Yeah, it's worth it.

EDIT: I actually like this CD more than I could ever have imagined. Sure, it's super raw, but dang is this some good music or what? I can't say I enjoy the Nugent cover, but pretty much everything else is awesome.

Andrew Wood was an unbelievably wonderful singer/musician. I love and treasure this album. If you are an Andrew Wood/MLB fan, I'd suggest checking this album out.

Malfunkshun is an amazing band. They are true pioneers of the Seattle music scene. Love MLB, but thought this record was even better! A must own for the grunge folks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Rock Awaits You, December 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Return to Olympus (Audio CD)
The first real super group of the Seattle scene albeit unkown to those outside of the Northewest. One of the best groups to ever originate in the area. Unfortunately the album doesn't capture the bands greatness. However if you are a fan of Mother Love Bone this album is must.

If you are into Pearl Jam, Nirvana, SG, AIC, etc...you should seriously consider this CD. Malfunkshun was one of the bands that helped really define the "Seattle" sound along with the UMEN and Green River. From the ashes of Malfunkshun came Mother Love Bone and Then Pearl Jam. Love this CD
