John Horvat succinctly describes the condition, history, diagnosis and prognosis of our current economic crisis. The economic chaos or peril is only symptomatic of the bigger and more crucial issue of a CULTURAL CRISIS. His terminology of FRENETIC INTEMPERANCE is brilliant. This is not an apologia to retreat from the world nor is it an attempt to turn back the clock, so to speak. It is a coherent explanation of the sitz-im-leben we find ourselves. Only an ORGANIC CHRISTIAN SOCIETY can save Europe and America from the same oblivion that doomed the Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilizations. Western Civilization is rooted in the JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN ethos. No philosophical or economic theory can provide what an organic Christian society alone creates and supports. Not Socialism, not Communism, not Fascism and not unbridled, unrestricted and unlimited Consumeristic Capitalism. Horvat, like Fr. Sirico, shows that a Free Market makes sense and conforms to the Natural Moral Law but must also be constrained and governed by it as well. I highly recommend this book

At the outset, I should say that I'm not a general reader of RETURN TO ORDER, but rather the Christian editor who was asked to critique this book as it was nearing completion, and later copy edit it as well. I felt privileged to play a small role in the final editorial development of this book, which from any point of view is a magnificent writing achievement.

In RETURN TO ORDER, John Horvat first presents America's Christian history in a new light and then gradually gives us a clear picture of the things that created the framework of today's global economy, how most of the population is literally being herded by technology, and how frenetic forces are slowly destroying Christian civilization. He leaves no doubt that America's flight from temperance--which he calls "frenetic intemperance"--is like a cancer that is slowly but surely destroying our economy, breaking down our society, and throwing our way of life out of balance.

In this book, many years in the making, Horvat has brought together a wealth of meticulously researched historical facts and sobering industrial, financial, and technological perspective to make his points. The book's hundreds of footnotes confirm his extensive research and reading of dozens of books on a wide range of socio-economic topics--books many of us might never find in the first place or have the inclination or time to read if we did. While many readers find footnotes annoying, they are essential in a scholarly book such as this. In fact, Horvat's footnotes often contain relevant information as interesting as the text itself.

I like how confirming quotations from many authors and other experts have been used in conjunction with the author's own thoughts and ideas.

This book is the real answer to the economic crisis. It locates the source of the crisis where it really lies - in the heart of man. The heart of the issue is a moral one. Other books out there focus on the symptoms, this author has hit upon a return to order that if followed will restore our broken society to an organic unity.

While this is a book which addresses the current economic crisis it has so much more to offer. Mr. Horvat's use of metaphor helps very much to clarify the problems which beset our country.

He argues that the problem we need to overcome, as a country and individually, is frenetic intemperance. This intemperance drives us to live beyond our means; to buy what we don't need with money we don't have. He likens America to the prodigal son who wasted his fathers inheritance. It was only after he ate of the husks of swine that he began to have longings for his father's house. The author points out very well that we are like that wayward son. Now we see a catastrophe looming on the horizon with many people proposing radical ecological and socialistic solutions that threaten to throw us in the pigsties of abject misery.

"If in this grave hour, we could but realize that we have sinned," Mr. Horvat explains, "it would serve to awaken in us humble and contrite hearts." A return to our father's house is what we need. For us that means Return to Order. I highly recommend this book.

+The new book, Return to Order, is the answer that Americans are waiting for. Wait no longer. This book details thoughts on an organic Christian Society, and, why this is needed now. We can't wait for politicians who only vote to keep themselves elected. We have to resolve our moral dilemma to repair this country. Don't take my word for it. Read the book, pass it on to friends, and start a
renewal or retrun to the God-given Order that we were founded upon.

A scholarly work drawing on decades of historical research,Return to Order by John Horvat II details how "frenetic intemperance" has caused the moral, political and economic quandary we are faced with today. This book is not for the superficial reader. The author, similar to a microbiologists, researches the many causes of this cancerous phenomena, which is destroying our culture, in order to provide a cure. Using powerful and convincing facts on how America is worth fighting for the author details how the meaning of the phrase "the right of the pursuit of happiness" is misunderstood by many Americans and how this misunderstanding strikes at the heart of the problem. Mr. Horvat proves that by readjusting our moral compass we will be able to navigate our country from a frenzied society to a true Organic Christian order.
