4.0 out of 5 stars LOVE the MacKades!
I'm so excited to see some of Nora Roberts's backlist being released on Kindle. And it doesn't get much better than the MacKade series. Rafe's book more or less sets the scene for the rest of the books, and it really works. It's not quite as emotionally compelling as some of the later books in the series, most notably Jared's and especially Devin's books, but it is still...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read
First of the four MacKade books. (Also, the first I have bought off Nora Roberts' back list since her publisher started price gouging Spring 2010. These books are $5 each.)

The author creates her usual likeable characters in a strong small town setting, with plenty of romance and humor, all lightly flavored with Civil War history and a couple of ghosts...

4.0 out of 5 stars LOVE the MacKades!, July 25, 2011
I'm so excited to see some of Nora Roberts's backlist being released on Kindle. And it doesn't get much better than the MacKade series. Rafe's book more or less sets the scene for the rest of the books, and it really works. It's not quite as emotionally compelling as some of the later books in the series, most notably Jared's and especially Devin's books, but it is still an eminently readable book.

Rafe, the former bad boy, comes back to Antietum, Maryland, as a reformed bad boy ready to make good. He buys an old supposedly haunted inn and hires Regan to furnish/refurbish it. The two of them are oil and water, but the conflicts are believable and the sparks are sizzling. Great first entry to a GREAT series!

This review is from: Return Of Rafe Mackade (Heartbreakers) (The Mackade Brothers) (Paperback)
i, unlike most, didnt find all 4 books before starting, or even start with the first one (this one) but instead, read this one last. it didnt make the book any less, but it does make me want to re-read them in the proper order. i loved this book. rafe is almost perfect. regan is a wonderful woman and i loved the relationship between cassie and the rest of the family. i only wish there were more to this series! ::smile

"The Return of... was terrific!! What better way to spark interest than to write about gorgeous men!!! Rafe was all that and then some!! Regan was cool to a point, but she had her moments and rafe deserved everything he got, including her!!!

I am sure I came across this series from within a review I read. Thank you unknown reviewer! This is one of the best books (series) I have read. Rafe is a traditional male lead (bad boy), but the characters are fleshed out so well the old formula is still interesting. I read the series in order, but I am rereading out of order a month later and the books truly hold on their own. I really liked this book, but I can't say it is my favorite. They are all so good, I think of them as one continuous story. And wouldn't it be nice (and profitable) for them to be re-released together. I don't think in the last 6 years there have been that many better books. Once again...Why is this out of print? :)

This wad a great way to start the series of Mackades! The characters were great and if you also liked this one, go get Perfect Neighbor and Inner Harbor, all by Nora Roberts, which I thought were very much like this book. I can't wait to read to rest of the series!

Good read, especially if you read all 4 MacKade books. I really enjoyed reading the series, although I read Shane MacKade first. Start with Rafe, then JaredThe Heart of Devin MacKade (The Mackade Brothers)The Heart of Devin MacKade (The Mackade Brothers)The Fall of Shane MacKade (MacKade Brothers).

All read quick and fun.

First of the four MacKade books. (Also, the first I have bought off Nora Roberts' back list since her publisher started price gouging Spring 2010. These books are $5 each.)

The author creates her usual likeable characters in a strong small town setting, with plenty of romance and humor, all lightly flavored with Civil War history and a couple of ghosts.

This is probably my least favorite of the four, mostly because of the hero's behaviour in the last quarter of the book. SPOLIER ALERT: The heroine has some trouble and he makes it all about him, then turns ugly because she doesn't need him enough. Typically male, but I don't read romances for the typical. And it drives me crazy when no one calls him on his attitude.

Still, it's a quick and enjoyable read and will leave you eager for the next story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rafe and Regan, April 7, 2007

This review is from: Return Of Rafe Mackade (Heartbreakers) (The Mackade Brothers) (Paperback)
A good solid introduction to a series of brothers that just gets better. In Rafe's story, Regan makes a fine heroine for the wild Rafe. It's a well written story that never really goes wrong. A solid Nora Roberts.

4/5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Rafe's a hunk!, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Return Of Rafe Mackade (Heartbreakers) (The Mackade Brothers) (Paperback)
This is my second favorite book in the McKade series. Rafe is just the kind of man I'd want, not too polished and very sure of what he wants. Regan is great, she's feminine but definately not a wimp! It's well worth the wait if it's special ordered. Also try The fall of Shane McKade, that's my favorite of the series.
