4.0 out of 5 stars Charming Memoir, November 10, 2009
This review is from: Return to Sawyerton Springs: A Mostly True Tale Filled with Love, Learning, and Laughter (Hardcover)
I did laugh out loud a few times, but mostly I found myself smiling as I read about the happenings in this Camelot of small town America, recalled with gentle humor by Andy Andrews. "Return to Sawyerton Springs" is a selection of "mostly true" reminiscences of a minister's son growing up in a close-knit Alabaman community that regards Birmingham as the North.

The tale meanders along like a babbling brook on a lazy summer day, creating a mood of innocent well-being. The stories are like a time capsule of the values of neighborliness and kindness that his upright, church-going community held dear. Andrews is a fine storyteller, and "Return to Sawyerton Springs" will strike a chord with anyone nostalgic for a simpler time.

This was one of the best books I have ever read. It made me laugh so hard, it made me want to share it with all my family and friends. I have since bought all of Andy Andrews books. One of the best writers ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book club review, January 24, 2010

Our book club in Washington State read "Return to Sawyerton Springs" by Andy Andrews in December, 2009, and over all we thoroughly enjoyed this visit to small town life. Andy tells us that he has kept the essence of his childhood and we are very happy that he has a good memory. Some of the comments from readers were `heartwarming', `sincere', `humorous', `completely engaging', `just like eating peanuts, you can't put it down' and `each chapter is a garden of delights'. I particularly enjoyed the wonderful sense of community since I don't have a hometown. One of our favorite chapters involved uniquely small town way to raise money for band uniforms involving plant pot painting, washing driveways, and baking to name a few. Local graduating seniors trick the community into believing a beloved statue has been stolen in one chapter. A parade bombed by ping pong balls and a food war between a traveling store bus and a lunch counter populate this `can't put it down' book. Creative, sentimental, and bound to create a smile, we highly recommend this book!

If you don't laugh until you cry reading the first chapter, there's something wrong with you! I couldn't put this book down! I got it for my Kindle, but now I've purchased 5 hardback copies to pass along to friends. This was the funniest, charming, most poignant book I've read in a long time. Andy Andrews, you're my favorite!

Just got finished with this book and it was so good. A funny account of the Authors childhood in a small town. I have read Andy Andrews books before and love them. He is an awesome writer! I have never laughed out loud with a book before but this one had me rolling a few times. Definitely worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Return to Sawyerton Springs, April 21, 2011
This review is from: Return to Sawyerton Springs: A Mostly True Tale Filled with Love, Learning, and Laughter (Hardcover)
My 9 year old grandaughter loves for me to read to her each chapter. She likes the way I explain to her that her grandpa had very similar life experiences. Many of them are very easily related to, by any reader that was born in the 50's and early 60's. That is the way life was!

Andy Andrews has written another captivating book. I bought this as a gift for my brother, but after I read chapter one I had to read the whole thing before I could wrap it for him. Our family loves the way he uses his God-given gift of storytelling.
