3.0 out of 5 stars Walt Disney Pictures the Return to Oz (Golden) Storybook, June 14, 2005

This review is from: Return to Oz Storybook (Paperback)
I've never seen this book before, and I almost sort of wish this particular book hadn't been made in the first place. At first I thought there were only 6 books, then it was revealed to be about 8, and so now I'm thinking that there might actually be 10, or MORE!! This hardcover has the front picture with Dorothy holding Billina as she and Tik-Tok walk through the Mirror-Palace. All the photos in this book are large-sized, old and new (which helps a bit, because if this book only had old pictures, this review might have had 2 stars) and the story is a little more condensed than previous books. One thing they did differently with this book is having Aunt Em and Dorothy already at the clinic and talking with Dr. Worley, instead of the opening Kansas Gale Farm. And of course the bits usually taken out are Dorothy's old house, being watched/followed, the girl's reflection in the mirror, Mombi sending the Wheelers after Dorothy and the Nome King revealing his possession. There is one new change included in this book not in any others, which has the Nome King doing something else to Mombi (with her still locked in her cage), something which is a little similar to a Deleted/Alternate Scene - but she still appears back in Oz like in the final movie. Another small change is mentioning another deleted scene, this time on Dorothy's return to Kansas ('we couldn't find the other one.') Also, the ending mentions 'day and years' passing, which isn't that bad.
The Photographic-Storybook that I remember (and hope to get soon), is an A4-sized Paperback, with the front cover having Dorothy's friends standing around Ozma on the Throne. The pages in that book had lots of writing, possibly the full story, and having lots of movie-stills, ranging from small-sized to medium-sized, with an occasional large-sized. That book, just like 'Dorothy Returns to Oz' and 'Dorothy in the Ornament Rooms', was in my OLR Primary School.
You can get this book if you like, but it might be best to look around for this book in libraries, old schools or such and see for yourself whether or not you'd like it to be in your collection.
