5.0 out of 5 stars The return to great fun !
I don't know why,but I enjoy this movie much more than I enjoy Wes Craven's version (pt.1).Maybe because of the effects and the make-up which are cool for a low-budget movie, the characters -which are more interesting and more likeable and the black humor (take the case of the asthmatic monster(!) that fights with our hero).Besides, this movie features Heather Locklear and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Human / Vegetable Romance...
OK, this one is terrible if you're a jaded adult. I admit I hated it utterly. However, it's a kid movie. I mean, there's only one "bad" word in the whole movie, zero blood, no nudity, insufferable characters, lots of gunfire / explosions, and 80s TV-movie production values. 4.0 out of 5 stars Okay, some people are missing the point (yet again), February 21, 2003

I've read alot of negative reviews for this one, and none of the people writing these reviews really seem to grasp the concept of a Jim Wynorski film. Jim Wynorski makes b-movies, ONLY b-movies, and he makes them well. If you're unfamiliar with what a b-movie is, you should'n't be writing a review for this particular film, but I'll give you some background. Remember those old fifties drive-in films, you know, the kind they play on Mystery Science Theater 3000? Stereo-typical characters, guys in rubber suits playing cheesy monsters, and that special 80's touch up, huge breasts every couple of minutes...these are all elements of the b-movie. You're SUPPOSED to make fun of it. You're SUPPOSED to actually enjoy yourself watching a movie for once.
Return of Swamp Thing is an excellent b-movie, and one of Jim Wynorski's best. It's alot different from the original, but alot better, in my opinion. No disrespect to Wes Craven, but Swamp Thing isn't one of his better films. Not as bad as Scream 2, but it's not quite up to par with his usual films.
If you DID enjoy Return of Swamp Thing, I recommend "Not of This Earth" (1986), "Sorority House Massacre II: Nightie Nightmare", and "Hard To Die".

5.0 out of 5 stars Swamp Thing rules......, March 27, 2003

Swamp Thing rules... even though this is a campy movie The Return of Swamp Thing is fun. If you like superhero, monster movies and camp rolled into one then this is the movie for you. The best part of this movie is the opening credits with that rock and roll song. This is one of the better Superhero movies... 10times better than THE Captain America, Fantastic Four and The Punisher movies that were never release. Right up there with Batman Returns and Superman 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars "I got you now Mr. Potato-Head!", April 21, 2008
This review is from: The Return of Swamp Thing (DVD)
This is B-Movie greatness! Adventure, rubber suits, funny one-liners, it's all here. This is a review of the OOP Image release.

"The Return of Swamp Thing" is 10 times more entertaining than the first and here's a list of 10 reasons why:

10) Heather Locklear: Gentleman prefer blondes, nuff said.

9) The fight scenes are many, but varied which is cool.

8) The kids put in a great comedic performance.

7) Character development: each character truly has their own voice and a specific scene to remember them by, kudos to the screenwriters.

6) "Gun": The psychotic head of security has the best lines in the movie like "Turn him into guacamole" and "I got you now Mr. Potato-Head!"

5) The creatures: The evil monsters are classic sci-fi models that add the campy flare with a touch of realism.

4) The bath tub scene: After being blown up, Swamp Thing sneeks into Arcane's base via the plumbing. At least they showed one of Swamp Thing's powers, besides being able to punch people.

3) The war wounds scene: Security guards Gun and Poinsettia compare their various scars and tell where/when they got them. Very memorable.

2) Dr. Arcane: Every good movie needs a villain and Louis Jourdan puts in a great performance as he performs all his evil deeds with psychotic calmness and humor.

1) The Swamp Thing costume doesn't look like a melted plastic Green Army Man toy. That's right, there's actually some resemblance to the comic!

Overall this is a fun movie with plenty of action and comedy. It used to be shown in it's entirety on TV so it's fun for everyone.

Buy it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cult Classic, January 30, 2003

One of the classiest cult movies you will ever encounter, one of the best comic adaptations ever made, a million times better than the first one proving the Empire Strikes Back theory that it is possible to make a superior follow up. If you are a cult comic/movie fan do yourself a favour and invest the 20 bucks or whatever it is to own this masterpiece.

SWAMP THING himself is a walking compost heap w/ a heart of mold... er, gold. He battles a leach-man and some hicks in order to save two intensely annoying brats and Abigail (Heather Locklear) from certain doom. Abby's step-dad is none other than Dr. Arcane (Louis Jordan), sociopathic megalomaniac and mad scientist. Arcane's looking for a way to reverse the aging process, apparently by turning people into mutated freakazoids! I found this movie tedious and dumb, but I know I'd have loved it as a kid. Swampy even shows Abby some good ol' fashioned swamp-love! Hallucinegenic seedpods anyone?? So, shift yer brain into neutral and coast through this one! P.S.- If you're just looking for a good Jim Wynorski movie, check out CHOPPING MALL...

Yes, it is goofy. Yes it is made by the same guy who made the pseudo-Conan THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER. Still, it's entertaining. Actually, I think it is actually better than the original (how did Wes Craven get hooked into that one?). True, you do have the two obnxious kids and Swamp Thing whacking away on creatures with big rubbery heads. Louis Jourdan returns as Arcane (didn't he literally loose his head in the first one), Sarah Douglas as an evil assistant and Heather Locklear as the eye-candy love interest for Swampy (this time completely played by Dick Durock)and it opens with credits from the comic covers to CCR's "Born on the Bayou".

4.0 out of 5 stars Great B film, November 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Return of Swamp Thing (DVD)
This is a little film that is well done with a personal touch. It never loses sight of the little people, for whom the swamp monster is a hero. This is a reprise of Beauty and the Beast, pure and simple. I am a Heather Locklear fan and the movie makes good use of her. The funny thing is a lot of guys remember her being carried out of the burning mansion at the end, a spectacular and sexy sight. Ironically, the producers would not risk their star in the scene so a body double/stunt woman was in most aspects of that scene.

I remember watching this film as a kid. It is nostalgic to me now. Not the greatest of movies, but the younger generation likes it. My younger brother sure does.

This movie brings me back to when I was growing up and used to watch the show Swamp Thing. It tracks with the show. I like the old memories that it brings.
