Star-studded Cast,
By "lordofthefruitflies" (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Next Generation (DVD)
I took one look at the cover of this movie and nearly coughed up blood. In my mind, Matthew McConnaghey(whatever his name is) and Renee Zellweger DO NOT belong in my Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. It seems downright blasphemous.. until you watch it.This movie is highly hilarious. Here's your summary: Four teens(including Zellweger) go on an after prom ride into the boonies, only to find a nearly dead kid on the road. The teens split up to find help with a broken flash-light, only to run into a crazy redneck(McConnaughey) and his equally crazy family. Hijinx ensue. The old chainsaw family is replaced with a new one which, while my purist side balks, is almost equal to the original characters. Here we have McConnaughey as a crazy mofo with a robotic leg, his quote-spouting brother, his lusty and very battered wife, and, of course, good old Leather. A winning combination. Most TCM fans are angered by the inclusion of Leatherface cross-dressing, and I can't blame them. If the thought of that turns you green, stay away from this movie. I, however, can't argue with Leatherface doing the chainsaw dance in a dress, no sir. This movie is definetely not for purists;. I would, however, recommend it as a good time. Some times you have to be afraid of angry retarded men with chainsaws, and sometimes you have to laugh with them. This movie is for your laughs.

A Horror Of A Horror Movie.,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Next Generation (DVD)
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" (or "The Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" as it is also known) sits in my DVD collection, along with the other "T.C.M." movies, for one simple reason: It is easily the most vexing and confusing horror movie in the entire history of cinema. Think about it. Co-scribe of the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Kim Henkel, sat behind the director's chair and made the complete opposite of what fans want from these movies. It makes no sense. Is this some sort of afterbirth from the original movie? Or is it just a very twisted and comedic remake? No one knows. I don't know. You don't know. I pray everyday that they will release a DVD edition of this movie with commentary from Henkel himself, just so we can all know what this movie was supposed to be. Because we know it isn't scary. You can't watch this movie and be scared, it just doesn't work. And it's only funny in the "so bad it's good" vein. There is not one single moment where you fear for a character's life, and when we are supposed to care, the people in peril don't care -- one character, being pursued by a member of Leatherface's clan stops to catch his breath and says something to the effect of "Please stop, you're scaring me." And don't even get me started on the portrayal of Leatherface himself in this one. The story revolves around a group of good looking teens who get lost in the woods on prom night. Eventually, as it always goes, they end up in Leatherface's house, which is again, full of a brand new family of half-wits and psychotics, lead by Matthew McConaughey (you heard me), who is one of the few saving graces of this film, as he piles on the cheese to his character. Renee Zellweger (yes, again, you heard me) plays the typical role, the innocent teen who inexplicably survives as her friends get slaughtered. Zellweger hits all the right notes, as the frumpy, yet attractive, frightened teenage girl. However, nothing else in this movie works. There is little to no gore to speak of, and just when you think things can't get worse, a limousine arrives and...well...I wouldn't want to spoil it for you. You just have to see this trainwreck for yourself. It's so horrible that you just can't look away. It's too bad the "franchise" had to end with this entry, and it's so baffling that someone who created the original story couldn't have done any better. Watch it only out of morbid curiousity. Use once, then destroy.

No wonder Leather Face is mad, he watched this film!,

I was not a fan of the original TCM nor the remake, And I know sequls are usualy a lot worse with these kinds of films, but man, this one stunk worse then Pepi Le Pu's laundry.
The movie started of ok, not great, it contained far too much swearing, even by my standards, everything was "F" this, and "F" that, but aside the intelegent dialog bringing it down, the plot was looking ok, as a group of friends find them selves in a carwreck just down the road from Leatherface and the gang. But from there, the plot went extremly bad, i'd beleive it if the writer said he had written half a script when they started filming, and wrote the rest during, because it went everywhere with no reason. I suppose the idea was to get cheap scares or something, just stick a girl in a situation where shes running for her life and hope the audience buy it. Well, I dunno about you, but I didnt buy it. I dont get scared, but I know what a good horror flick is. A good one has a plot that makes sense, not just a lot of screaming, growling and stupidity mixed with a bunch of things that dont make sense. They tried to explain in the film that there is an underground orginization that these guys work for, and that this head huancho just wanted to scare people, not kill them, and his plan went wrong. The ending of the movie was the nail in the coffin to bury this god awful film. I wouldnt even recomend you hire this film, I wouldnt watch it again if it was on TV, and if it was given to me, i'd use the DVD as a coaster or a frisbie. My questions to the people who made this film is: 1. How could you make such a bad movie? 2. How could you release such a bad movie? 3. Why did you waste yours and everyone elses time by putting it on DVD? Dont bother with this garbage, it's not scary, it's not frightning, most of it doesnt make sense as to why it's happening, unless your completly obsessed with Leather Face and wanna see him scream alot but not actualy kill anybody in the entire film, then you might wanna check it out, but no one else would.

A HUGE insult to the whole "Chainsaw" series!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (DVD)
This movie has to be the biggest let down out of the whole "Texas Chainsaw" series. In this film, you can't get in more then five minutes before you want to shut it off. All the characters, especially Leatherface, are the biggest bunch of idiots in this film! It was supposed to be a re-make of the first film, but all it was, was an insult to the first film. If you've never seen the "Chainsaw" films, then I advise you to stick with the first two and maybe check out the third one if you want a good laugh. However, STAY AWAY from this one!! It's not even worth the one star I gave it!

Worst TCM film PERIOD!,

This review is from: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (DVD)
By far this is the WORST TCM film to date! The only thing that kept this film afloat were Renne and Mathew, though Mathew did overplay the role a bit trying to act too psychotic. And what is with Mathew's hydrolic leg? I mean come on that is SO stupid.. using TV remotes to operate the damn thing Pathetic! In the end this movie is just a disgrace to the other 3 films. I hope the TCM Remake does better but very doubtful considering what the makers of the film have commented on how they want to portrait it "It will focus less on the gore and more on the thriller aspect of the story". Hello?! As Gunner Hanson put it "Did you even watch the Original TCM?".. well put Gunner. If this is what is to be expected, then expect to see another Scream movie :\

It's been a long time since I've watch a terrible movie like this. The actors are terrible, and Leatherface is ? . This movie cannot be related to any of the previous films. The story and the idea-yeah!, but not the characters and the action. This movie is psychological stupid, with no point at all. It's not a Chainsaw Massacre, it's a stupid Transvesite who thinks he's gonna scare people with an old chainsaw. And believe me, you don't get scared. STAY AWAY!

There are movies that are so bad they're good, part 2 was like that. This movie is more like part 3 though, so bad that it surpasses good and finds its way back to bad again. It starts out like a paint by numbers horror film then tuns into a pathetic homage to the original that has no continuity with the series. I'd say they were trying to forget part's 2 and 3 ever happened, but they're acknowledged in the opening sequence, so forget that idea. We know Renee Zellweger is capable of better than this, but a bad director can't even get much out of the most talented actors. When she says things like "There's a guy out there with a chainsaw" or "Don't hurt her." She says it with about as much passion as one might say, "pass the remote." Then there's Matthew McConaughey's character which seems to be a return of the hitchhiker, I don't know for sure if that's their intention or how they can do that but whatever. He's just this annoying guy who'd you'd wish would just shut up. Of course, what would a TCM movie be without leatherface, who's now a gender bending transvestite. An idea that hit the cutting room floor of the original that's back in full force of this one. Too bad his chainsaw never incised into any human flesh, can you really call it a chainsaw massacre when blade and flesh don't meet? What's even worse yet is that they don't even appear to be cannibals anymore. All you see them eat is pizza, vegetarian pizza even, that's just so wrong. The ending is totally derivative of the original, but can someone tell me how someone can get run over by an airplane in the middle of nowhere? I hope the next generation is the last generation if this is what the future holds. TCM had the potential to be one of the greatest horror series' ever, but sequels as this have killed that idea.

Can you give a movie negative stars? How about -5 stars? This movie should not have been released...It is such a pathetic attempt to recreate the origional TCM movie. I rewatched # 1 a couple of weeks ago and decided to try some of the other ones because it was so good. That was a mistake. This movie is just plain bad. Bad acting (Now I understand why Matthew McConaughey tried to stop its release). Very bad writing, and bad direction. Leather Face was just stupid. There was no suspence, no sitting on the edge of your seat, no anything. Some movies are so bad that you just laugh at them...this went beyond that, I wanted to cry. One more thing. This was obviosly made before Renee Zellweger had taken an actiing lessons, she does a terrable job. Although I thought Matthew McConaughey did a good job with what he had to work with. To sum it up...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
