Open your mind and heart and explore the possibilities,
By Jackie M. Sthilaire "Memere Jackie" (Manchester, NH United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
I am very grateful that I came across this book and this author's story. It gives me great joy to hear of someone who has also encountered Jesus and has gone through the emotional, spiritual and mental journey that this experience made us travel. I wouldn't give up the experience even though it did cause much anxiety to my family and myself.
I experienced a near death experience in May of 1974 at the age of 32. Like the author, I was a little fearful to share this experience because nobody that I knew had ever shared this type of experience. In 1975 our family was fortunate to be able to buy a Christian Book Shop and this is where I was able to come across some literature on my experience. Of course the great mystical saints like St. Theresa of Avila: God Alone Suffices, The Collected Works of Saint John of the Crosswrote many books on their mystical experiences with Jesus. Discovering Dr. Raymond Moody's book "Life After Life: The Investigation of a Phenomenon--Survival of Bodily Death" was the greatest comfort for me at that time. In reading Return from Tomorrow, what is the most helpful is that with all the turmoil the author experienced he realized that love is the greatest of the gifts and it seems the message is the same in many cases, including my own experience. It is a "tall" order, it sounds so simple and the message is simple but the "ego" gets in the way and at times our self-centeredness comes forward. To let go and let God. At times we are our own worst enemies when it comes to the acceptance of being loved and in return loving others. Like the author, I started reading the bible with a different perspective. Before this "re-born" experience, I read with only an intellectual, study mind attitude, now I read the bible with my heart open wide.

One of the best, classic, modern NDE accounts,
By OAKSHAMAN "oakshaman" (Algoma, WI United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
_I had heard of Dr. Ritchie and read exerts from this book for years before I finally got around to reading it myself. I am glad that I did, for it is a joy to read. My edition has an introduction by pioneering NDE researcher Dr. Raymond A. Moody, where he describes Ritchie's experience as one of the three or four most interesting and well-documented cases out of the thousands that he has studied. In fact, he reveals that it was this experience that first attracted his attention to the phenomenon as a young philosophy student.
_This is a classic account of the near death experience. It happened, and was later published, long before such experiences were publicized in the popular media. All the key elements are here: out-of-the-body travel, the being of light, the life review, spirits of different evolutionary development finding their own "level" with like spirits, the city of light, his disappointment after returning, etc. The "real world" verifications are especially striking, such as Ritchie recognizing that he was in Vicksburg, Mississippi during his out of body experience. _Yes, the author has a strong Christian perspective, but it is of the best, most open-minded sort. He mentions finding the spirit of Christ in people of all races and religions. I couldn't help note that from the account it is the author that states that the being that he encountered was Jesus - not the being itself. It was obviously a manifestation of the Christ in its most pure, classical nature. However, it is clear to me that such a manifestation of living light from the Source could have also been labeled Apollo or Phanes, depending upon the experiencer's background. In any case, any cultural colorations and additions are in the latter part of the account and can be easily recognized. _As for credibility, the author was an Eagle Scout, college graduate, combat veteran, medical doctor, and psychiatrist. He had no overwhelmingly strong dogmatic convictions before the experience- or apparently afterwards. This is about as credible as you are ever going to find.

A Great, Quick Read!,

I just received my copy of this book today, and I've already finished reading it - a testament to just how good it is. I honestly couldn't put it down!
In "Return From Tomorrow", George Ritchie describes his near-death experience - his glimpses of the self-imposed levels of hell, as well as the beauty inherent in the various levels of Heaven. He makes clear that God & Jesus are pure love, and that there is no such thing as being sentenced to a firey Hell. The Hells we experience are of our own making - by holding onto negative feelings such as hate & prejudice. This book rang true for me, but we all must decide for ourselves what the "truth" really is. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in near-death experiences, the spiritual realms, &/or spirituality in general.

Return From Tomorrow,
By Dean R Christensen (Arizona, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
I've read this book three times. Probably one of the most influentual and spiritually motivating books I've read. In response, to "Christians Beware", don't let these types of mind Controllers keep you from pondering the splendor and reality of our existence. They would have you running scared from anything that didn't reinforce their narrow agenda. On the contrary, Christians may take great comfort in this book. Dr Ritchie humbly offers his story to the world. "Return From Tomorrow" is an account that may provide hope and peace for those pondering the nature of our existance. If there is an after life, and I believe there is, it must be every bit as real, purposeful, and substantive as our current existance. "Return From Tomorrow" is simply fascinating and beautiful.

Wow...I don't know what to subject this...Wow...,
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
All religious faiths try to limit God's love. (Especially us Christians) We might as well say: `For God so Loved the Christians that He gave-" God loves the world! This is probably the most dramatic story of God's love ever told outside the Crucifixion. (And this is also a True story of the supernatural.) I'm not talking about the fuzzy I'm sitting on a warm spot super natural. This is a story of angels, heaven, Christ, and even hell (Don't expect the American-Christian hell.) I think in this story the greatest place Christ's light is shown was in the depths of hell as he reached out even beyond the grave to save not only the souls of those in hell; but the soul of this writer before this writer was actually, literally brought back to life. Beautiful, beautiful story made me cry! And I'm a teenage male!! (It's not easy to make me cry!)

POWERFUL DESCRIPTION OF AN ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS CHRIST.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
I found the book in 1982 and found it to be a powerful, facinating encounter of one man with Jesus Christ. If there is a God - he must be the way Ritchie described Him. I have lived in a religious environment all my life, and have reached out to God all my life. Ritchie's testimony comforted me greatly when I lost my wife suddenly in 1989.
Here was a man who still lives today and who had met Him - in our times; it was not someone from another age thousands of years ago.
Because the book helped me understand God's burning love for us, I have bought and given out over 75 copies of the book to others, and still do especially to those who had lost loved ones. This included my sister in Germany, where I found the book in a bookstore in Kassel, Germany - translated in German.
I am now reading both. All my family has read it. And many to whom I gave the book, in turn passed it on or bought additional copies for others.
I have also read Ritchie's second book "My Life Since Dying". The books are not just sitting on my book shelf: Periodically I read sections again to remind me of my purpose in life. "Return From Tomorrow" was very engagingly written (with the help of it's editor). The utterly fascinating story gradually overcame my usual pessimism and caution that I project when reading anyone's story of having an encounter with God.
This story was definetely different and most believable.

Unforgettable. One of my Top Ten....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
Where the last guy was coming from (sounded like "fear" to me), I don't know, but this book did more to RESTORE my faith than any other I've ever read....It's a "quick read" (2-3 hours), but it affects you for the rest of your life.... I've read it twice.... The first time, it sounded too unbelievable and yet was compelling enough that I never forgot it..... Several years later, after much spiritual growth, I read it again, and the truth of it rang loudly within me.... I thought the experience he related "too detailed" the first time.... But I since read much about "near death" experiences and learned that a large percent of people who have an experience have one just as detailed as George Ritchie's -- and many of the details closely match his own account.... Give it a read and see what YOU think.....

A revelation,
By
This review is from: Return from Tomorrow (Paperback)
If you have ever wondered about what its like to die, read this book and understand. Dr Richie's account of his near death experience in 1943 is the most astounding I have ever read. His guide during this journey is his Lord and Saviour, Jesus. But that being of Light could be any of the great Avatars who have come to this planet to lead humanity out of the darkness. For a devout Christian, it would be Jesus, for a Hindu, Krisna, for a Muslim, Mohammad, for the Buddist, Budda. But regardless of who showed Dr. Richie the tapestry of the afterlife, the picture he paints is both disquieting and comforting. His explanation and experienced of being disembodied, and the scenes he is shown by his guide of where souls go who remain earthbound is harrowing, frightening, and indeed give us a picture of a "hell" of our own making. But as gripping as these scenes are, Dr. Richie offers the reader his overarching, overwhelming lasting rememberance from his journey into tomorrow. That that being who accompanies him - is so radient, so loving, so devastatingly beautiful, that he knows the words so often spoken since his passing are true: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me, Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me...." We all will one day, face our own death, we cannot escape that experience. The account in this little miracle of a book will help you prepare for that day.

Return from tomorrow,

This review is from: Return from Tomorrow: A Psychiatrist Describes His Own Revealing Experience on the Other Side of Death (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book of Love and Grace. I have known Dr. George Ritchie, for almost 45 years, and his story of Love and Our Christ has not dimmed in all those years. Dr. Ritchie, lives this book every day of his life. I buy 10 copies at a time and give them to friends in need. This is a wonderful book of Love and Grace. After reading this book and hearing Dr Ritchie's talks, I do not fear death, I only cry at times of death because I will miss my love ones here on earth. I know that they are in a world of Love and one day I will join them.
