This trilogy is fast-paced, exciting and most of all believable. I could not wait for the third book in the series and I am sorry that it's over! Good Job!

5.0 out of 5 stars A believable and chilling read! February 7, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Ken Nowell has written another fast moving mystery that combines the little known prophecies of century old saints while staying true to end time Bible prophecies. This third book in the trilogy comes together with all the evil of the times and it is spine chilling and imaginative and makes the future a horrific atmosphere for Satan to triumph. Nowell offers a real glimpse into heaven and into hell. To see the great end of the Return is to see Hope. It is more than you can imagine. We will all have to choose. The Return will beg the question.

Sometimes one experiences a sense of loss or sadness after having completed a particularly good or meaningful book. Not with this one. Finishing this trilogy, for me, was just the beginning of a renewed interest in the Old Testament, Revelation, and the Biblical roots of the Universal Church.

Here are some specific things that particularly struck me:

1) Sr. Clarita. Now, this is just my take. I could be wrong on this interpretation. I see Sr. Clarita in The Rise as perhaps impetuous and naive, but an innocent nonetheless, and full of zeal for the Kingdom. By The Return, she is wise. She displays the gift of counsel. In thinking of her death (which I am yet a bit unclear to decipher), I am reminded of St. Joan of Arc, who is said to have jumped into the flames, St. Lawrence, who said, "Turn me over; I am done on this side", and St. Peter who asked that he be crucified not as Our Lord, but upside down. I am sure the circumstances of her death may cause some to cry "that is a sin!" Indeed. But isn't G_d the only Judge of our motivations and the movement of our wills?

2) The Altar of Holocausts. Wow. I am ashamed to admit that if I have ever heard of this I had also quite forgotten about it. In The Return, I was reminded of the Sanctuary light always burning (except Good Friday). He, the Lamb Who was slain, is always with us.

3) To me, the hospital was the perfect showcase, if you will, to highlight the Divine Physician's work in the human soul. Later in the book, and I paraphrase, it is explained that in the Darkness those who pray He doesn't leave. And those who seek their own will He abandons to it, respecting their freedom to exercise free will. In the hospital, this is clearly demonstrated to chilling effect.

This is the third book of a trilogy and was even better than the preceeding two books. There is a twist near the end that I never anticipated but should have. Truely a trilogy thatn everyone should read!

At the age of 29, Ken was elected to the West Virginia state legislature by defeating, among others, the Speaker of the House. Ken earned his B.S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University, as well as Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees from the University of South Carolina.
