Book Description

Twin sisters are born in Medieval England. One of the infants is dying and is taken to the Witch of Devonshire, who uses supernatural powers to transport the ailing babe to the future. It is the year 1986 when Cathy Hayes, a woman who has lost her child and husband in a car accident, finds the baby at her doorstep, gets her the medical attention she needs, and raises the baby as her own. Morgan grows up in the twentieth century with a mysterious attraction to a hollow suit of armor that stands in the window of her mother's antique store.

Morgan is twenty-four years old when she becomes entangled within the armor's metal plates and is whisked back in time where she is mistaken for Amanda Forrester, a twin sister she knows nothing about. In Amanda's place, Morgan is forced to marry King Henry's favored knight, Derek Vanguard, Lord of Braddock Hall. Abandoned by his mother and having failed as a child to gain his father's love, Derek's heart is as cold as the stone walls of his castle.

In the end, Morgan discovers the true power of love and for the first time in her life she knows where she belongs.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The ending was so well written it gave me chills, and I purposely read it slowly because I didn't want the story to end. I hope there's a sequel in the not too distant future.
--Caroline Fyffe, award winning author of Where the Wind Blows and Montana Dawn

From the Author

Twenty years ago, when I sat down to write my very first book, I ended up with binders filled with notes and character sketches. Five years later, I had fifty pages of what turned out to be an outline. After finishing my first book, Return of the Rose, I joined Romance Writers of America. I also joined the Sacramento Chapter of RWA. I worked with critique partners, I signed with two agents, and I worked with more than a few editors on two of my novels. I garnered six nominations in RWA's prestigious Golden Heart Competition. I entered writing contests and later became a judge for many of those same contests. I attended conferences all over the U.S. and most importantly I wrote every day. Despite all of my hard work, signing with a publisher in New York was not to be. I had written more than ten novels and I was frustrated. My husband told me I should write for the love of writing and nothing else. He was right. And that's exactly what I began to do. I cannot wait to wake up every morning and write. I have a passion for telling stories and I cannot imagine doing anything else. Becoming an indie author has allowed me to share my stories with readers--a dream come true.

2.0 out of 5 stars Enough with the stupid heroines!! July 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
One of my major pet peeves in romance writing is when a writer tries to pass off idiocy as somehow charming and adorable. Not only was Morgan not charming and adorable she was a moron. There were any number of ways she could have backed up her time travel story just by showing her husband the zipper on her jeans, the fabric in her clothes, THE TAGS!! None of that ever occurred to her. She designed a sleeveless gown for herself that any middle school kid will tell you would not have been acceptable at that time because, despite the fact that she was raised by an antiques dealer and was supposedly a history buff with an affinity for that time period, she not only never picked up on that fact, she also didn't have eyes to see that no one else wore such outfits. She caused problems every minute by being a petulant, unintelligent brat and that was supposed to be a suitable substitute for actually being a strong, independent woman. The bikini scene was contrived, the joust scene even more so (she couldn't figure out why running down to the jousting field and then giving someone else her favor was a bad idea) and everything about her just annoyed me no end. And what was all this concern about Robert, a guy she met twice for about five minutes? The whole story was so forced and I'm so over the "girl with IQ of a turnip gets awesome guy" plot line.

There are so many great conflicts that can arise naturally if the author put a little more effort into research. It would be easy for a history buff from the future to slip up and mention something that hadn't happened yet but was about to, causing everyone to suspect her when her words showed true. It isn't necessary to fall back on the same tired old schemes all the time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ehh... November 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book was sweet, but I found it lacking in a few key things.
Firstly, you barely get to see Morgan's life in modern times. I think it would help to establish her character and situation if we followed her through an at least entire day of her life. She mentions that she never felt like she belonged as a child, and also that she missed her mother, but it would be more effective if we were shown these things rather than told.

There were also some historical discrepancies. This is 1444. If people even suspected that a woman was a witch, she would be burned at the stake. Anyone connected with magic would be ostracized, not embraced.

The idea and plot were interesting, but the lack of character definition and historical accuracy made this book merely OK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended ! April 2, 2011

I actually am not a Fiction reader, however, the title "Return of the Rose" caught my eye. I downloaded on to my Kindle for a very long, and difficult six hour flight. The story-line gripped me right away, and I could not put it down. "Return of the Rose" had me transported to all the beautifully written characters, the far-away lands, and love oozed from the pages. For this "Self-Help, Non-Fiction avid reader" I throughly enjoyed the read, and when the pilot announced we were on finally approach I could hardly believe my ears. Look forward to more books by Theresa Ragan. She is an author that will go far in the Romance Novel World. You knocked it out of the park, Miss Theresa! Best $2.99 I spend!

First off this is a time travel novel with a small twist. The main character has traveled forward in time as an infant so doesn't even realize that she has time traveled. Read more
