1.0 out of 5 stars Probably the weakest Al-Qadim product ever produced., February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Reunion (Al-Qadim RPGA Network Adventure) (Paperback)
Reunion was a three-round RPGA scenario based in the Al-Qadim game universe and it has been repackaged for use in a home campaign. Unfortunately, the scenario does not translate well at all since it relies heavily on the players using the provided PCs rather than PCs of their own making. Like most RPGA events, Reunion emphasizes role-playing, particularly with unusual PCs and situations. This scenario, however, does so rather clumsily as it forces the PCs into various situations and reactions with little regard for player freewill. Several encounters have foregone conclusions that supercede any and all player actions, thereby relegating the player to the role of spectator and the DM to the role of a boxed text reader. These conventions (no pun intended) are staples of the one-shot, four-hour con event, but are likely to cause friction in the more wide-open home game. While it is often possible for an agile GM to work around such strictures, the structure of this product makes the job difficult since the plot requires that the players play very different PCs in each of the three phases. If you are looking for a one-night throwaway scenario and Al-Qadim appeals to you, this product may be of use, but others will likely be frustrated by the amount of revision required to employ this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rich Adventure in the World of the Arabian Nights, June 12, 1998

This review is from: Reunion (Al-Qadim RPGA Network Adventure) (Paperback)
I had the pleasure and privilege of playing this game when it premiered at GENCON several years ago. What a treat! A rich and textured roleplaying adventure, allowing for development of characters on multiple levels.
