Book Description

March 7, 2007
Eighteen-year old Victoria, daughter of a British aristocrat, is confronted with the sudden death of her much adored father Lord Edward Grantonmere, an affluent and influential entrepreneur. Soon she learns the secret her father has harboured for many years. Her mother, who she thought had died while giving birth to her, is alive. To her surprise she discovers that her natural mother is a woman of Arab descent. Now Victoria embarks on a mission to find her mother and twin sister. This takes her to Damascus, where she learns about her Arab Moslem background. Nadwa Arar has written a splendid first novel. She is herself of Arab family background and was born and brought up in Germany and educated in the USA and Great Britain. Her book seeks to build a bridge between East and West. Two Sisters growing up, one in each culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent dialogue between East & West, March 29, 2007
This review is from: A Reunion in Damascus - East-West Dialogue (Paperback)
This is the first book I read which explains in a simple dialogue the different issues one is faced coming from a Western Culture trying to fit into the Eastern Culture, and vica versa. By writing in dialogue style, Nadwa succeeded in explaining Islam in a very simple way, the way it is lived day in day out by over 1 billion Muslims around the world. A lot of Muslims who grew up in the West will find this book very enjoyable, and alot of Westernes who believed in the adage "East is East and West is West and they will never meet" will find this book a challenge to their mental status quo.
