Amazing music, great CD!!!,
By Jazzer Man45 "Jazzer Man45" (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Reunion (Audio CD)
I'd heard pianist Jeff Lashway with Maynard Ferguson; he we really featured with the band. He's a great player: Oscar Peterson-level chops, great taste and touch. His arrangements are smoking, and his friend, the legendary drummer Vinnie Colaiuta is given lots of solo space. The rest of the "cast" is stupendous: Jim Rotondi on trumpet, John Allred on trombone, Frank Basile on Baritone Sax, Todd Coolman on Bass, and terrific vocals by Jimmy Hall.Hall was the founder of the Southern Rock band Wet Willie, and he's toured and recorded with Jeff Beck. His singing here, on "Down Here on the Ground" and on the "For Nola" medley, is a real revelation. Two tunes, "The Quintessance" and "One by One" must have been recorded at a different session: They feature Tenor player Jeff Rupert (another Maynard alum), Richard Drexler on bass and John Jenkins on drums. The Quincy tune is the only ballad, and it's beautiful... Rotondi is featured on "The Touch of Your Lips," "Doxy" and "Gingerbread Boy" are Bone//Bari tunes. The recording sounds amazing --- I hope Lash continues to share his musical talents --- MORE, please!!!
