5.0 out of 5 stars good read!
I just finished the book and I really enjoyed it! I grew up in MD and I just went back for my 20 year high school reunion. Of course Facebook played a big role in finding old friends. I loved all of the Maryland references and the story was very current with a modern day affair involving the internet and other technology. A great beachy read for summer!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable and fun enough - I'd recommend more than not.
I read quite a lot of "chick lit" and tried this self-published book for fun. It was quite good and certainly better than many officially published books I've read.
It's a story about a married woman who through social networking, reunites with her high-school crush and struggles with her feelings of wanting to possibly re-ignite a flame from the past.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light, enjoyable read, September 12, 2010
By
This review is from: Reunion (Kindle Edition)
Ever wondered what happened to past boyfriends or crushes from high school? Reunion, by J.L. Penn, takes this as its starting point when its protagonist, 30-something Jessica Stratford, begins using Facebook and makes contact with a former high school crush, David.

Reunion is an enjoyable, light read. Its plot is appropriately paced and its characters are consistent. Readers of a similar age and life-stage will likely find much to relate to and smile about. Although typical of the chick-lit genre, Reunion also raises more serious ideas concerning married love, fidelity and finding a balance between appreciation of what you have and what you could have.

This isn't a genre I am normally drawn to but I enjoyed Reunion and it was perfect rainy-day Sunday reading.

This book was well written. I like that the author gave a fresh look at what can happen when reconnecting with an old flame. I can usually see the ending coming from a mile away, but this book kept me guessing much longer than I usually do. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still chuckling to myself..., January 26, 2011

This review is from: Reunion (Paperback)
I finished this delightful book a week ago and I am still chuckling to myself over some of the subtle sarcasm and slice of life situations on display in the book. If this is a new author I can't wait to see more. I enjoyed it so much and saw so much real life (mine!) in the story that I heeded the author's note at the end and e-mailed her and told her what I thought--afterall she asked nicely! I first purchased it because I had a new Kindle and it was cheap-there I said it!-but after reading it, it would be worthy of a higher price and ranks right up there with some of the best books I have read about modern day life as we know it. The author reminds us that my generation 50+ misses Erma Bombeck and that subtle wit that keeps you chuckling a week after you read it! I experienced the same with Reunion. If Reunion were a weekly column, it is the first thing I would read in my daily newspaper. Keep on writing Ms Penn--looking forward to the next book!

I loved this book. After the first few pages, I was hooked. Jessica, the main character, is caught up in a love triangle, thanks to Facebook...which I'm sure happens quite frequently these days. I found myself rooting for her to end up with one guy, and at the end, I was hoping for the other one. Very pleased with the ending! If you're looking for a fun, quick read, with lively characters...this is the book for you. Highly recommend it!

Cute, relatable chick lit at a good price. Perfect to read on the train - very light and easy to follow. I enjoyed this and would be interested to read other stories by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast read, July 6, 2010

I bought the book for my Kindle and there were some distracting formating errors, but I still liked the book. I think it has a truth to it people can relate to. Jess gets on Facebook and finds her long lost love David, but the problem is she's married. Throughout the book I was undecided, like Jess, was about her continuing to communicate with David or to be a good wife to her husband who had his own flaws, but was a pretty good guy. It's hard sometimes to wonder what if and then question what could be when it comes to past relationships. The author did a good job of making me flip flop between wanting Jess to be with David or stay with Kyle. In the end I decided the choice I thought Jess should make and was glad to see the author made the choice I wanted for Jess.

The only thing about the book that was overdone to me was that there was a lot of cheating. In real life I don't know that many cheaters. I did guess one of the persons in the book was cheating and the other one admitted it right away. I liked the intercation between David and Jess which is what kept the book going for me, but I was wanting them to do something or forget about each other. It was getting tiresome that Jess wasn't making a choice of some kind. Overall the book was pretty good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything that Rises Must Converge, May 5, 2010

When I read the premise for this novel, I was intrigued, and Reunion definitely delivers what it promises--a what-if story with a moral about being very careful what you wish for. Since I don't particularly enjoy spoilers, I won't reveal the end, but I was very satisfied with Jenn's final decision. The only thing I had a little trouble buying was that two other characters were in the middle of affairs in the novel. I think I would have accepted just one better. Aside from that, this is a novel that is well-written, funny, and definitely a reality-check when it comes to Facebook temptation.
