Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Recently married, Charlie (Memories Can Be Murder) sees her firefighting husband off to a New Mexico site, then checks the private investigations office where she and her brother work as partners. An unpleasant woman practically forces an unusual case on her: to find her elderly and senile prospecting father-before the family's impending reunion. With very little searching, Charlie finds bizarre characters, a yellowing treasure map, a deserted mine, and a corpse (but is it of the right person?). Fans of Southwestern mysteries will find that Shelton's engaging story, likable heroine, and comfortable prose make this a good choice.

More About the Author

...Every 5 minutes, 24 hours a day, somewhere in the world, someone downloads a Connie Shelton mystery...

A personal Thank You to all my readers who make this little statistic possible. Having fun with my writing, and connecting with readers--that's what being a mystery writer means to me. And I LOVE what I do!

It began in 1985 when I started writing my first novel, without much clue how to go about it. Two years and 500 pages later, when I finally typed 'The End,' I felt a huge rush of excitement. That book took third place in the Southwest Writers competition and began making the rounds of publishers. I simply started writing my second, and then my third books.

After publishing ten of my Charlie Parker mysteries, I decided to branch out with a second series and I created the character of Samantha Sweet. One of the ways in which I earned a little extra pocket money during my high school years was to bake and decorate cakes--hence, a career for Samantha based on my own experiences.

In 2009 I switched publishers and was off on a new adventure, seeing all of my books made available for Kindle and the other ebook devices that were just beginning to take off in the book world. It's been an exciting time in publishing and I'm loving the new formats and the ability to personally connect with readers all over the world via my newsletter and my website at connieshelton.com.

This review is from: Reunions Can Be Murder: The Seventh Charlie Parker Mystery (Charlie Parker Mysteries) (Hardcover)
Charlie Parker has the misfortune to be in her office when Dorothy Schwartzman comes in search of an investigator. Charlie explains that she handles financial matters for the firm and her brother, who is the investigator,is out of town, but Dorothy is not to be daunted. She insists that Charlie look for her lost father,Willie McBride, and find him in time to come to a family reunion. Charlie follows some leads which Dorothy has given her and ends up in the small community of White Oak, N. M. She finds a dead body which might be Willie's but which she is not able to identify without dental records. As her investigation proceeds, Charlie is confronted with old treasure maps, fights over mineral rights, and more dead bodies. Since Charlie's husband, Drake, is off fighting a fire, she is pretty much on her own and ends up going on a literal treasure hunt. Connie Shelton delivers another good mystery in this latest in the Charlie Parker Series.
