At long last we find out about the Quinn's mother & what happened to her. Fiona has kept a secret all these years. Now that secret has come home to roost.

Keely finds out on a trip to Ireland that she has a dad, still alive & 6 brothers. She start working in the Quinn's pub trying to find out about her family. But there is 1 complication. She has met Rafe Kendrick. He is the son of a crew member on the Mighty Quinn. He was killed at sea & Rafe has sworn revenge on Seamus.

He has also fallen in love with Keely, who he finds out is Seamus's daughter.

This series is fantastic & will stay with you, bringing a smile to your lips long after you read the last page. Liam's story is next.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good story, standalone, but marred by some details, January 16, 2006

This is actually part of a series about the Quinn brothers, which solves the mystery of what happened to their mother Fiona. [If you don't want this spoiled for you, read no further]

Keeley, the heroine, discovers that she is actually a Quinn, born to her mother Fiona after the latter had left her husband and six young sons. Her search for her family takes her to her mother's home in Ireland and then back to the United States to Boston. She discovers that her father Seamus owns and manages a pub with the help of her brothers. Keeley visits the pub several times, but hesitates to make her identity known, fearing their reactions. On her first visit, she meets Raphael (Rafe) Kendrick, wealthy entrepreneur (and hero) under somewhat distressing circumstances. Keeley returns to her career as a cake designer, but she and Rafe cannot stop thinking of each other. Their relationship grows over time, but each is hiding family secrets from the other. It is only after the relationship has been consummated that Keeley tells Rafe that she is actually Seamus's daughter - which is a problem for Rafe, who blames Seamus for his father's death.

The problems I had with this book are with the hero's actions and motivations, as well as the reactions of Fiona (Keeley's mother and the Quinn brother's mother) towards the end. Again, spoilers cannot be avoided entirely, but let us just say that Fiona's actions are too easily accepted and condoned, and that she is welcomed all too easily back into the family. Given that she apparently abandoned her young sons (all six of them) to a often-drunken father and made no contact with them for years, the lack of questions seems more than a little strange to me. This might not pose a problem for other readers.

More seriously, I had real problems with some of the hero's actions. He sets into motion a revenge scheme which is rather drastic, without bothering to find out the truth behind his father's death. He kidnaps the heroine, and is easily forgiven for her. He will not apologize to the Quinn family once the truth is known, yet expects them to accept *him* easily into the family. The revenge scheme, although partially carried out, could easily have destroyed Keeley's father personally. Keeley's reconciliation (twice) with Rafe seems rather easily come by, let alone her family's acceptance of their marriage.

In the past, I have accepted plots driven by the hero's need for revenge, although not those directed at the heroine herself or persons the heroine loves (or professes to love). Let us just say, that I do want some major grovelling (or repentance) shown by the hero if the latter is the case. I did not get a sense that Rafe Kendrick was at all repentant about his mistake, and in fact, he never apologizies, even though he does try to undo part of his revenge in a small way. This was something that spoiled my belief in this particular romance, especially when I kept playing out "what-if" scenarios (what if Seamus had a heart attack? what if his innocence was proven too late?). Other readers might be more inclined to forgive this particular hero and his actions. I cannot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keely, The Mightiest Quinn Yet!!, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Reunited (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed "Reunited" by Hoffmann. I'd already read about Conor, Dylan and Brendan and was looking forward to reading about all the brothers. In Conor's story when Hoffmann references a mysterious woman he runs into outside his family's pub and again when he changes her tire, I wondered who she was and what secrets she held. Then, in Dylan's book, the woman shows up in the pub and she's become a waitress there in Brendan's. So, it was obvious that she would have some impact on all the brothers and their father, as well.

In "Reunited", we finally learn all about Keely and exactly who she is and what she wants. I liked this book and watching her try to figure out the best way tell her secret. The book isn't just about Keely's secret, but also about the man she's met, Rafe Kendrick, who has own secret, as well. Keely, is eager to really get to know the Quinns and she has no idea that Rafe is determined to seek revenge on them, especially Seamus. So, when she finds out...what is a girl to do?

Hoffmann is one of my favorite authors. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the series so far. I'm eager to read about the other brothers and see what the woman in their lives will be like. I hope you will read, not only this book, but the entire series, because the Quinns are definitely worth knowing.
