5.0 out of 5 stars Finally....the ROCKabilly is back! January 22, 2014
By A.N.
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I like this album. I wasn’t to big of a fan of "Revival" being the follow up to "Lucky 7" which was I thought was great, and even less of a fan of "Laughin and Cryin". I think it’s hard to rate a RHH release simply because they’ve been around so long and over the years have released different styles so you have diverse fans who prefer certain releases/songs over others. I was in my early teens when I first heard the RHH on a Sub Pop compilation and remember seeing their psychobilly freak-out video on Beavis and Butthead… now I’m in my 30’s and have heard all they’ve done. About this release “REV”… It’s mostly rockabilly/rock style songs versus the country style they have released in recent past. I think if you liked releases like A Night in the Box and Lucky 7 you’ll probably like this one. It starts of with “Victory” and rolls into “Smell of Gasoline” (like how the instrumental Big Sky starts off to Baddest of the Bad…..hopefully this will be their new start to their live sets like Big Sky/Baddest were for so many years), and has the surf style instrumental “ Zombie Dumb” (containing few lyrics like their song Marijuana), the song “My Hat” reminds me of something off of A Night in the Box. Overall the album is good. It does have one or two songs I feel I will skip (like Hardscrabble Woman) after a few listens in its entirety (but skipping 1 or 2 out of 13 songs makes for a good release in my eyes), but for the most part it is upbeat, fast paced rock/rockabilly and I’m happy to have it after the long period since Lucky 7.
On a side note, I was REALLY surprised to see they are with Victory Records now which is (or was) exclusively hardcore bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - a return to form February 12, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you're the kind of RHH fan who feels they peaked with Liquor in the Front, and you were concerned that Laughin' and Cryin' was less "psychobilly" and more "novelty-lounge," then you're going to love REV. Victory Lap and Smell of Gasoline will remind you of the first time you heard Big Sky and Baddest of the Bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smell of Gasoline - Blaze of Glory! February 8, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Wow this album just kicks major a** from start to finish! Haven't heard anything this wild come from the Rev in years... not that the slower stuff is bad by any means. Just figured they were over the heavy stuff except when performing live. So dialed this up and gave it a listen and damn, out the door to go buy it asap! Didn't know he still had that kind of fire in him, now can't wait to see them perform the new stuff live (in Vegas! yeah!). Opinions will probably vary like always, but whatever, this is definitely a rocker and an easy 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the RHH album I have been waiting for! January 23, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Huge fan that sees them every chance they come through. This is the album I had hoped the previous one would be. It's very up tempo and fast, less classic country sounding. This band truly gets better with age. Production sounds great on this album. The Victory label jump is unexpected and I hope it works out well for them. It does fit though for this rager of a Rev album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Gonna Stop Bringin' The Heat January 22, 2014
By alex
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've read that one of the goals of this CD was to bring back the edge. Mission accomplished ! While the detours to country, boogie-woogie, and such can be entertaining, the return to loud and fast is fun and very satisfying. The music, lyrics, and performance are that of a band at the top of its game. While Jim and Jimbo are always awesome, I think the return of Scott on the drums really gave things a boost.
The art and liner notes are nice as well. I really enjoyed reading Jim's insights on each song. Looking forward to seeing some of these songs performed live and looking forward to the next great RHH CD !

5.0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah!! The Reverend is Back!! January 22, 2014
By jmgfarb
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
After what I consider a disappointment with Laughin' and Cryin', my expectations were certainly low with this new release from The Rev and Jimbo. It only took a couple of songs to get my blood pumping and realize this album is great. Songs like Spooky Boots take me back to Custom Gospel days and am glad to hear he put the "rock" back into "rockabilly."
