Julie's decision: get back at her tormentor or not?,
This review is from: Revalacion (Exposure) (Spanish Soundings series) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Part of Orca Publishers' popular Orca Soundings series, Revalacion is the Spanish translation of Exposure. As is typical of the Orca Soundings series, the book is written at a level accessible to most middle school students and is an excellent resource for ELL and struggling readers. Julie just can't seem to get away from her tormentor, Dana, the popular girl who can seem to do no wrong. The bullying has been going on for years. When Julie's brother, Zack, inadvertently tells of Dana being at a party, Julie thinks that at last princess Dana isn't perfect. Then she find a camera disk containing pictures of Dana in several compromising poses. Should Julie print the photos and post them at school, giving Dana her just due? There are a couple references to underage drinking and pot smoking.

"Exposure" is a book about a girl named Julie who is constantly getting bullied at school. Julie tries to just ignore the girl. But that doesn't seem to do any good. Now, all Julie wants is revenge for all she has been put through. Finally, Julie gets exactly what she needs to get the harsh revenge she's been dreaming of. Julie exposes a picture of Dana. But not just any picture. It's a picture that could cost Dana her reputation. After the picture gets exposed, many of the girls talk and spread gossip about Dana. Julie gets the revenge she wanted. Soon, Dana and Julie straighten out their differences and get all their questions answered. In my opinion, "Exposure" is a great and well-written book. My favorite part of this book is when the author put "Dana would say something or bump me or make me drop my books.," I like this part the best because it shows everyone what happens in a public school. Everyone has been bullied sometime in school. And some may have even been the bully. That line fits in well with the rest of the book. I also like how "Exposure" teaches a lesson. When Julie wanted revenge on Dana, she didn't think about how she, herself, would feel after accomplishing her goal. But after getting revenge, Julie didn't feel good about it. That's because revenge is NOT the answer. This book shows that you really should think things through before acting upon them. Book received free of charge. |
