A&P Revealed...layer by layer!, March 23, 2006
This review is from: A&P Revealed CD #3- Cardiovascular, Lymphatic and Respiratory Systems (CD-ROM)
The best things about this series are:
-the plain fact that we're veiwing cadaver images (mostly), and not artist's renditions.
-the ability to 'fade' the layers in and out. This allows one to relate internal structures to each other and to surface anatomy.
-The terms and information for each image are concise and are displayed WITH the image (in a sep box), so no toggling or moving around within the app.
-For many features, there are animated models that can be linked to (eg. see the movement that the muscles facilitate)
Drawbacks:
-"tagged" features (labelled) are sometimes limited. This is not a hugely comprehensive bank of data, but probably just right for first-years.
Overall, I like this bundle alot (tho I've only seen vol 1 & 3), and am enthusiastic about the efforts to adopt it at our Community College for lower div A&P students. At the very least, it will be made available in the independent study lab. Though there are many CD_ROMs similar to this, I must offer kudos to Ohio Med school for putting together a lovely and well-designed tool for studying human anatomy!
