Book Description

November 1, 1991
Horsemen, signs, seals, weeks—this volume in Hendrickson's popular New International Biblical Commentary tackles the New Testament book that puzzles and intrigues laypeople and students alike. Wall takes a sane, common-sense approach to Revelation, explaining both its historical setting and its apocalyptic character. Like other NIBC volumes, this commentary uses the NIV for clarity and accessibility.

“Wall’s commentary is a valuable contribution to the study of Revelation. It interacts well with most of the leading contemporary scholarship in the field. It provides an angle of perspective on John’s vision that opens some new vistas into its meaning and provides healthy correctives of many misconceptions. This is a useful resource for college and seminary classes on Revelation and a helpful tool for those with theological/biblical training who would lead Bible studies on Revelation.”
—M. Robert Mulholland, Jr., Asbury Theological Seminary

More About the Author

Rob Wall is the Paul T. Walls Professor of Scripture and Wesleyan Studies at Seattle Pacific University (www.spu.edu/depts/theology/faculty/wall). His books and articles are aimed at both scholars and the church's clergy. Dr. Wall's canonical approach to biblical interpretation and his other research interests have been shaped within the ferment of the university classroom and guild in conversation with his students and colleagues. In both his published work and classroom teaching, Dr. Wall approaches the Bible as a sacred text, formed and fixed by the church under the Spirit's direction, whose referent is the triune God and whose target is the theological understanding and moral resolve of today's people of God.

Dr. Wall, an elder of the Free Methodist Church, is a Seattle native, an avid sportsman, and a dedicated Seattle Mariner's fan. He is a popular Bible teacher and enjoys an active ecumenical ministry of preaching and teaching in local congregations throughout the Northwest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Simple starter for the student, June 4, 2000

This review is from: Revelation (New International Biblical Commentary, Vol. 18) (Paperback)
This is a well designed commentary on Revelation. It deals with a few verses at a time with key words in bold. There are end notes at the end of each chapter. It is based on the NIV translation. He interacts with some of the other commentaries. It has a bibliography, subject index and scripture index. You will find this useful if you are looking for something simple to get you started in your study of Revelation. It is not very detailed, if you want something more detailed in the same price range I would suggest Johnson. However for something simple and at a good price this is a good start, but you will find that it must be supplemented with a more detailed commentary later.
