Editorial Reviews

Review

This commentary provides the reader with a careful study of the text that lays bare its powerful connections of Revelation to the Old and New Testaments and to the historical context of its first audience. No reader will come away from the book empty handed but will gain fresh insight into the message and theology of the book and a renewed sense of faith and hope in the Jesus of Revelation. --Felix Cortez, Associate Professor of New Testament Studies, University of Montemorelos

In his commentary on the book of Revelation, Ranko Stefanovic has provided a scholarly study of one of the most intriguing books of the Bible. His command of the biblical languages and his vast knowledge of Scripture are evident throughout the book. Of particular interest is his historicist approach in the interpretation of Revelation and his desire to show how events in history and prophecies are interrelated. Students of the Bible will find his commentary a valuable source of information and insights. --Denis Fortin, Dean, Professor of Theology, Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Andrews University

No reader of the book can come away without a fresh perspective on the text--a perspective that may well completely transform the way one looks at the Apocalypse. --Jon Paulien, Dean, School of Religion, Loma Linda University

From the Publisher

"Stefanovic’s purpose is to let the text govern the interpretation. He helps us see that the text is inspired. It is genuine prophecy. John’s message is for everyone—an encouraging, invigorating message for people today. Stefanovic writes an important book that takes a worldwide interpretation of Revelation and invites us to find hope and joy in the judgment."

J. Massynberde Ford, Professor of New Testament Studies, University of Notre Dame --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Revelation of Jesus Christ is a verse-by-verse commentary based on exegesis of the text. Using careful textual analysis, Stefanovic provides original translation and detailed discussion of the biblical passages. Though it moves chronologically through the book of Revelation, the commentary is carefully organized into thematic sections with occasional overview chapters. A lengthy introduction discusses authorship and the time and place of writing of the book of Revelation; a discussion of the purposes, structure, and symbolic nature of the biblical book; and a presentation of various methods for interpretation and guidelines for study. What I like best about this commentary is that Stefanovic remembers his general reading audience. Though the scholar's notes (with chapter endnotes) make the commentary suitable as a textbook in college and seminary courses, the exposition which follows each section is enjoyable to read. Also included are a bibliography and helpful indexes, including a very thorough scriptural index.

As a Bible teacher and a former student of Stefanovic

I have found this book invaluable. My own students

(Ninth and Tenth graders) have even asked about

purchasing the book for themselves. It makes an

intricate book far easier to understand.

From beginning to end this treatment of Revelation is full of incredible insights. As a preacher, this has provided me with invaluable lessons for how to see Jesus throughout this mysterious book an make it plain to the audience. As a student of the word it has offered me great depth on word meanings, Old Testament allusions and perspectives of the first century church in hearing this message. As a follower of Christ it has deepened my faith and strengthen my love for God and His word. An overall excellent volume for anyone seeking to low more about John's Apocalypse.

This is unquestionably the clearest, most concise book I have ever studied on Revelation. I notice that one of the other reviews states "It is not for the faint of heart", but honestly I would say that it is quite understandable. No, it's not for the surface reader, but I'm guessing most surface readers don't study Revelation anyway. It is clear that the author had spent years researching this book, and I can say that it was worth it. I have muddled through Revelation, trying to get a handle on it many times, and this is the first book I have read that really makes sense. When I originally bought the book a couple months ago, it wasn't available on Kindle to my dismay. But I went ahead and bought the hard copy and I've been plowing through it with great enjoyment. Tonight I went to buy his smaller book (and more recent one) and to my surprise this one was now available on Kindle. Seemed a real investment to buy it in both hard copy and Kindle, but that's how much I like it. if you are a serious student of Revelation, this book will be a delight.

Our Bible study group just finished the study of Revelation this week. I used Rank Stefanovic's book as one of my commentaries to teach our class. It is simple enough for the average learner and scholastic to those who want to delve deeper. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in studying Revelation. One of the ladies in our group said "now I am not afraid of Revelation". The book of Revelation is about The Revelation of Jesus Christ. Stefanovic's closing paragraph summed it up well. "In conclusion, the purpose of Revelation is above all to constantly remind God's people as they face oppression and hardship not to look to the things of the world but rather to fix their eyes on him who is their only hope. The book is not just a revelation about the course of history or final events, but rather about the presence of Jesus Christ with his faithful people during the course of history and the final events. The Christ of the book of Revelation is the answer to all human hopes and longings amidst the enigmas and uncertainties of life. He is the One who holds the future."

Este é o melhor comentário sobre o apocalipse que já vi. Com muita autoridade e base para confirmar os princípios nele expressos.

Absolutely the most comprehensive verse by verse study of revelation I have ever read. I'm STILL reading it and have a women's bible study now and we are studying it. We are learning so much about OT too. The prologue is a challenge but take your time or start with Revelation and then come back to it. It's a wonderful study!
