Barclay is for Everyone
Barclay, one of the foremost Biblical and New Testament professors from the 20th century, wrote this series of commentaries to appeal to the 101 student, preachers and lay bible study leaders. Barclay, one of the foremost Biblical and New Testament professors from the 20th century, wrote this series of commentaries to appeal to the 101 student, preachers and lay bible study leaders. It is NOT meant for seminary or in-depth study.
His writing style is easy, informative and he actually uses a lot of Greek text to form his commentary. But you don't need Greek to use his work. His approach is to open the readers eyes to the setting and background of the Biblical text. It is a timeless commentary I use all the time as a springboard for preaching and for leading Bible Study.

Barclay quotes a lot from apocrypha and ancient folklore, and not a lot from Scripture. Have not found it very useful in my study. Much better to read Walvoord, or even LaHaye.
