Editorial Reviews

BBE Records is proud to release the full length album from Philly soul artist V entitled The Revelation Is Now Televised. The album features a guest appearance from platinum selling soul artist Jill Scott. V’s album also features top quality production from the A Touch Of Jazz camp (DJ Jazzy Jeff, P. Smoovah, and others). The album features the tracks “Hey Pretty Baby”, “Would You Be Mine”, and “Anotha Phase”.

Throughout the 90’s, V worked with various singers and producers (including Christopher Williams and James Poyser) as a back up singer. V eventually released is debut single “It’s Raining” which reached # 1 on the 9 at 9 Countdown on Philly commercial urban radio station Power 99 FM. This song caught the ears of DJ Jazzy Jeff who brought V into the A Touch Of Jazz production team for writing assignments on songs for Will Smith, Musiq Soulchild, and Justin Timberlake. As well under the ATOJ camp, V lended his vocals to numerous tracks on DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Magnificent album.

In the summer of 2005, V was on tour with Jill Scott and Erykah Badu for the Sugar Water Festival. With vocal comparisons to Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway, but with contemporary musical appeal, there is no doubt that V will appeal to soul and traditional R&B consumers alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent on some songs, okay on others, February 1, 2006
This review is from: Revelation Is Now Televised (Audio CD)
I was in a record store sometime last week and heard this CD playing, and I was like, who is this?!? They showed me the cover, told me it hadn't been officially released yet, but the manager was selling this CD. I got it the next day, and I'm not disappointed.

What caught my attention about the cover and the title was that there was an old record of the Gil-Scot Heron titled "The Revolution Will Not be Televised" written in the same font as V's album, with V posing the exact same way Heron was on the cover. Another thing that caught my attention was V sounded just like Musiq on some tracks, and that Jill Scott was on one track(she doesn't hit any lyrics though, it's more background ad-lib).

V did a great job most of the songs, on others they're decent. There really isn't a bad song on the CD, but certain ones just blow the others out of the water. He does have some instances where he talks about God and Heaven, like "Picture This" and "Born Again." "Confess" is a sharp Musiq-like groove. My absolute favorite is the last track "Melody." The lyrics play out like a love song dedicated to music, but the words could definitely apply to you mate. Matter of fact, I'm playing that song at my wedding! Definitely worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very very good..., May 27, 2006
This review is from: Revelation Is Now Televised (Audio CD)
This is an excellent CD. I'd never heard of this artist prior to buying the CD. I discovered it via the "customers who bought this, also bought..." section. After listening to the samples - which I loved - I ordered it. It really is excellent. His vocals really remind me of cross between Marvin Gaye and Musiq. I also love his melodies, his beats, and his vibe. (Oh, and that cover picture on the CD doesn't do him justice - pictures inside the CD reveal that the brotha is fine.) Hopefully this won't be the last we hear from him. And, Jill Scott's spoken word on track 8 is quintessentially Jill - really beautiful.
